The One Piece is real! After two weeks of the Straw Hat Pirates dominating Netflix charts, the streamer has renewed One Piece live-action for season two! Here’s everything we know so far about the second season, straight from the mouth of series creator Eiichiro Oda himself!
Is One Piece Live Action Renewed?
Hell yeah, it is! There’s no understating how wildly, runaway successful the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga is. In just the first two weeks One Piece has broken previous streaming records set by giants like Stranger Things, which is really no easy feat. It’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to reasons One Piece is getting a season two, officially confirmed by Eiichiro Oda himself in a TikTok video on Thursday. The manga-ka announced his custom Den Den Mushi gifted to him by the show’s production crew.
In the announcement, Oda repeatedly expressed how grateful he was for the fans both old and new. Oda’s announcement has been expected for a couple of weeks now. He says that after seeing how many have enjoyed the show, he’s ready for more. Oda let fans know to temper their expectations when it comes to time though, as a lot of work still has to go into the series before release.
Two Years
It’s likely that there won’t be another season for two years at the minimum. The current strikes by both WGA and SAG are going strong, with no sign studios are going to break soon. With a likely production of twelve to eighteen months that can’t begin until the strike ends, it’ll be a while. It’s a good chance for newcomers to catch up on the manga or anime though, and be ready to catch all the easter eggs in season two!
The Next Steps for One Piece
There are a lot of moving parts that go into a show like One Piece. With the renewal only just happening during the height of strikes, nobody is able to audition or be cast for the second season. Once the strikes are over, it’s likely showrunners have people in mind but then it just comes down to contracts. From there it comes to script finalizations and production, before passing to Oda for final approval. If Oda-san says everything is good to go, then the show will come out in that timeframe. Some things may require tweaks and reshoots, but those are usually a quick affair.
Until the release of One Piece’s live-action season two, it’s a fantastic time to be a fan. The anime is finishing up the acclaimed Wano arc and the manga is hitting a major moment in the final saga. Hell, even the videogames are getting love with One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 getting a new pack of DLC characters! No matter what fans choose, there is plenty of One Piece to keep everyone busy until season two!
