Wow, Egghead Island is really taking off to a higher level than anyone thought would happen in One Piece. Usually after a massive arc like Wano, there’s some slight cooldown to the events while things catch up, but Eiichiro Oda is really pulling out all the stops. Without getting too into the details here, it is time to break down chapter 1094 of One Piece and how it opens up a new barrel of worms for the Straw Hats.
Warning this article contains spoilers for One Piece through chapter 1094. The manga is available online from MangaPlus and Viz, so catch up before reading further!
What Happens in Chapter 1094?
This chapter picks up right where the previous one left off two weeks ago. Luffy is trying to keep Kizaru distracted while the other Straw Hats retreat with Vegapunk. Zoro is in the Upper Labosphere fighting against Lucci, and Sanji is heading down with Vegapunk and Atlas to the lower island. Meanwhile, Bonney is fighting her way toward them when Sanji comes to the rescue, and the Marines are getting ready to make their big move after the Pacifistas are under Vegapunk’s control again.
Things get BAD for the Straw Hats when Saint Jay Garcia Saturn steps onto the battlefield. Except now he has more legs than he used to thanks to an unspecified as-of-yet Devil Fruit. Things don’t look good, and Bonney goes on the attack against him despite pleas from the Straw Hat Pirates not to. Things end with the outlook grim as Luffy hits his limit in Gear Fifth, falling toward the ground as Saturn takes in the battlefield.
Kizaru Sees Stars
The fight between Kizaru and Luffy has been raging for a couple of chapters now, and things finally start to wind down. Despite Kizaru shooting multiple bullets of light at the Straw Hat, Luffy punches back with the Gum-Gum Star Gun. It’s a brutal left hook from Luffy covered in Armament Haki that punches right through Kizaru’s head like it was rubber. The Admiral really starts to see stars after that, and it seems to end the fight between him and Luffy.
Though that won’t count him completely out yet. Luffy defeating an Admiral in one-on-one combat is a massive deal though, and shows the power of an Emperor, he now holds. If they don’t try to cover up the Egghead Island Incident throughout the New World, Luffy’s bounty will likely see a massive bump after this arc.
Bonney’s Powers
Jewelry Bonney was only revealed a few weeks ago to actually be a child in the body of an adult thanks to her unknown Devil Fruit. It allows her to age not only herself up and down at will, changing from baby to old woman in an instant if she wants and retaining all her intelligence, but others too. She finally has some development to her fighting style, which has been for the most part absent other than slight glimpses of the results.
Near Death Experience, her first move turns the soldiers it hits into near skeletons before aging them back to normal quickly. It sends them so close to death they actually faint from the experience afterward, and it’s a credit to Bonney that she’s able to do something like that at her own young age.
Saint Jay Garcia Saturn
I believe I speak for every One Piece fan when I say “What the hell is that?”. Seriously, when the Navy announces that Saint Jay Garcia Saturn will be moving onto the battlefield, nobody expects it to go down this way. The guy emerges from a full-on pentagram like some demon summoning ritual, except when he comes out, he’s not a human anymore. What emerges has the upper body of Saint Jay Garcia Saturn, but has the lower torso of a giant spider and massive ox horns on his head.
It’s absolutely frightening and has led many to suspect the Devil Fruit he holds is a mythical type of Zoan based on Japanese Yokai. Saturn appears to be based on the mythical Ushi-Oni, which was a spider/ox hybrid creature that ate nightmares of sleeping people. Yeah, that sounds just a little terrifying.
A New World of Devil Fruits
This opens up an insane amount of possibilities for the other Gorosei as Devil Fruit users though. Seeing their shadows in the previous chapters when Sabo faces them, we’ve made some guesses on which yokai could correspond to each Elder. Of course, until any official word is given by Oda, there’s no telling what they could be. It still brings up quite a few interesting theories as to how the Gorosei will be handled in the final saga though. Their Devil Fruits can be incredibly overpowered demons to oppose Luffy’s Sun God.
What Will Happen in Chapter 1095?
That’s anyone’s guess, but the options the Straw Hats have are slowly starting to run out. Simply escaping may not be an option anymore, and Saturn blew the head off a Marine by simply looking at him. The Straw Hats could be in danger by just the mere presence of a Gorosei, and Luffy is all out of gas for Gear Fifth at this point. It’s going to take a miracle of effort to get them out of this situation, and that’s what the mysterious “Egghead Island Incident” has been all about.
Thankfully there’s no break next week, so chapter 1095 is coming on time seven days from now. Without too long of a wait, fans won’t have to do too much deep speculation. Perhaps Kuma will show up for rescue, or Kizaru will turn towards the metaphorical light to side with the Straw Hats. The Egghead Island Incident is going to change the world, it’s just that most of the Grand Line isn’t aware yet. One Piece chapter 1094 is a great entry in an ever-unfolding thrill ride, and it’s got everyone on the edge for next week.
