The Revolutionary Army are military groups that are led by Monkey D Dragon, and they’re located everywhere across the globe. Their main objective is to go against the World Government and eventually liberate the world from their power. They are particularly targeting the Celestial Dragons, who are the nobles in this world that abuse their power. There have been many occasions where the Revolutionary Army appeared on the show. Even during the two year training, Nico Robin was part of them. There are six main Commanders in the Revolutionary Army, each with special abilities and/or responsibilities. In this blog, the Commander’s skills, responsibilities, strengths and weaknesses will be discussed. Also, not to forget, their rankings as well.
Honorable Mention (Inazuma)
There are Deputy Commanders, however they’ll not be discussed within the rankings. However, Inazuma is worthy of being part of the ranking. But for the sake of this article, he will only be covered in this section.
The first encounter with Inazuma was during the Impel Down arc. He is a Scissor-Scissor fruit user and has the ability to cut anything and shape it into whatever he desires. During the arc, he plays a significant role. He was one of the key characters providing an escape path for everyone. Not only has he got a cool ability, but he is also the right hand man of one of the Commanders. Furthermore, skipping to the Marineford arc, he created a direct path for Luffy in order to save Ace. Here is another example where he plays as the key character for the arc. Inazuma is so underrated and no-one really talks about him. His cool scar on his face also marks him up.
7. Morley
Starting with position 7, Morley. Morley is a giant with a bounty of 293,000,000 berries. Within the Revolutionary Army, she is responsible for leading the West Army. The first encounter occurs when all the Commanders stumble across Lulusia Kingdom. Morley appears to be wearing a mini-skirt, topless and a trident in his left hand.
Her source of power comes from his heritage as being a giant and a devil fruit. He is a Push-push fruit user and she is capable of manipulating the ground. In Lulusia, Morley uses her trident and sends waves of the surface to the enemy. During Reverie, she pops his head from a mountain meaning he can submerge underground. Doflamingo recognised her and mentioned her name before, showing that she is a competent warrior, as a Warlord recognised her. Using her Push-push fruit, she creates the tunnel in level 5.5 of Impel down. This area is in use by Ivankov and his Newkama crews.
6. Lindbergh
Up next, Lindbergh. He is a small Mink who rules the South Army with a bounty (316,000,000 berries) higher than Morleys. During his first interaction, he receives a call from Sabo asking his whereabouts. He then responds that he is going to take a bit longer due to the unforeseen trouble in Lulusia Kingdom.
As well as being a Mink, he is also an inventor driven by curiosity. When Lindbergh is first spotted in Lulusia Kingdom, he comes down with a jetpack. He then takes out Peachbeard crew’s weaponry using his Cool Shooter. As he is a Mink, he is capable of using electro and when a full moon arises, he transforms into Sulong. With the combination of his Sulong transformation and his inventions, he is worthy of sitting in the Commander’s position.
5. Karasu
Next up, the leader of the North Army, Karasu. At the first glance, Karasu looks like a mysterious character, especially with the mask he has on. His raven-beak-shaped mask acts as a loudspeaker. The word “Karasu” means crow, and he is very representative of the bird, as he dresses up in all black. He has a bounty of 400,000,000 berries showing that he is a formidable Commander in the Revolutionary Army.
Karasu is a Soot-soot fruit user which is a Logia-type devil fruit. It allows the user to freely create, control and transform his body into soot. His ability is particularly useful, especially during an infiltration mission. The crows he controls can fly at high speed and can relay key information to his comrades. As well as this, they are in use for combat by stealing their weapon and disarming them. Each crow can carry a person, therefore they are very good for transportation.
4. Belo Betty
Onto Belo Betty. She is the leader of the East Army and has a greater bounty than Morley and Lindbergh, hence why putting her in this position. Her total bounty is 457,000,000 berries. It seems to be that she likes to wear pink, as that is the main color of her clothing when she is in Lulusia. As well as her super skin revealing outfit, she is seen holding up a flag with the Revolutionary Army logo on it.
Betty is the user of the Pump-pump fruit. This fruit allows the user to boost their will power along with their physical strength. When Betty first uses her powers, she speaks to the Lulusia citizens and acts as if she is looking down on them. She is scolding them and telling them to face their reality and stand up for themselves. Soon after, they fight back against the Peachbeard pirate’s tyranny. Betty likes to recruit people to the Revolutionary Army, however she makes sure that it is out of their free will. Therefore, all the people in her army admire and respect her a lot as a leader.
3. Emporio Ivankov
Unlike the previous Commanders, Ivankov was introduced earlier in the series, specifically during the Impel Down arc. Ivankov is in charge of the G Army which is the army in the Grand Line. As well as being the founding member of the Revolutionary Army, Ivankov is also a Grandmaster of Newkama Kenpo. Previously, he was locked in Impel Down, however he escaped to level 5.5 with all the Newkamas. Luffy was taken to Ivankov’s lair on the brink of death, and using his devil fruit powers, he brought him back to life. He played a strong role during the Impel Down and Marineford arc, as Luffy’s supporter. Post-war, he trained Sanji for two years, where he developed his up to date skills and strength.
Ivankov ate the Horm-horm fruit which is a Paramecia-type devil fruit. Ivankov has the capabilities of remodeling a human body. This includes their gender and any other physical aspects. Also, he can temporarily boost other people’s strength, even his own. During his interaction with Magellan, he temporarily blocked off his poisonous attack using his thick makeup applied on his face. On top of his devil fruit abilities, he has great physical strengths, as well as endurance.
2. Sabo
Sabo, also known as the “Flame Emperor” is a lot of people’s favorite. Even though his upbringing was as a noble, he spent a lot of time with Ace and Luffy living a not so noble life. Sabo, Luffy and Ace had a brotherhood drink and became half brothers. Sabo’s outfit hasn’t really changed from when he was a kid. He still wears a top hat with the goggles mounted on it. Before the Dressrosa arc, he had no memory of the past as he lost them when he set sail at a young age and was taken out by Celestial Dragons. However, when he learnt about Ace’s death, he was traumatized and started screaming, slowly regaining his memory.
His position as Chief of Commander is shown through his previous battles in the series. Before eating the Flare-flare fruit, he was already strong enough to be in the second position of the Revolutionary Army. Now that he has acquired a devil fruit power on top of his raw strength, his powers have significantly been boosted. Sabo is so strong that he could beat Jesus Burgess so easily. As well as this, he was able to put on a fight with Admiral Fujitora, although he was not showing his full strength.
1. Monkey D Dragon
Final Commander, Monkey D Dragon. He is the founder of the Revolutionary Army and stands at the very top. He is the son of Garp the Hero and the father of Monkey D Luffy, the current Emperor of the Sea. This information is told from Garp himself, post Enies Lobby arc. He is always in a dark green raincoat and has a unique shaped tattoo on the left side of his face. He was first shown in Rogue Town, when he stopped Smoker from attacking Luffy. It was weird that he saved Luffy back then, but when his identity was revealed, it all made sense.
He has global scale strength and that is due to him being in control of a big organization like the Revolutionary Army, where they are located everywhere in the world. When his relation with Luffy was revealed, everyone was shocked and thought Luffy posed a great threat to the World Government. This reputation alone identifies how dangerous of a man Dragon is. His bounty is currently unknown, but his power is on par with an Admiral, so it is fair to say his bounty may be similar to the Four Emperors.
