When it comes to anime movies, they have a bit of leeway that the main show doesn’t. While they might need to follow the rules and the timeline of the main shows, they can allow the cast to experience new stories. Some of these movies allow the cast to experience new lands, revisit old plot points, and battle new enemies that test their powers to the limit. They are non-canon but many of the heroes and villains introduced in these movies are pretty interesting. Interesting enough to play a prominent role in movies! For many fans, they are also interesting enough to be given a shot at joining the official canon as well. Here are some of the best non-canon One Piece characters and what makes them so great!
5. Mad Treasure
This character was introduced in the Heart of Gold special, which got things set up for the One Piece Film Gold. While there is plenty of talk about hunting for treasure in One Piece, and it is literally the entire reason for the plot, many characters don’t actually hunt for treasure. Mad Treasure does, as he was hired by Gild Tesoro to find Pure Gold.
Mad Treasure was pretty interesting for the antagonist of a special. With the Jara Jara no Mi Devil Fruit, he was able to control chains around his body and produce them. With these powers, he was able to battle against the powerful CPO agent Gismonda. He was also able to fight Luffy and hold his own in both fights. Having a simple character purely motivated by greed and nothing else would help to make the main canon even more interesting and fun.
4. Jonathan
Many of the Marine admirals and characters on the show have become fan favorites. It is the same with Jonathan. He is the leader of a Marine base that the Going Merry and the Straw Hats are trapped in. Unlike other Marine leaders, he shows good tactical skills throughout. Despite not having any Devil Fruit powers or even an onscreen fight, he manages to constantly outwit and outmaneuver the Straw Hats when they try to escape the base.
He also showed a deep respect for the crew when they did outwit him and managed to escape. He uses the events of the arc to galvanize the men under his command. His attitude and brainpower are so different from what we have seen previously. Because of this many fans want this amazing admiral to make a comeback!
3. Zephyr (Z)
The main antagonist of One Piece Film Z, Zephyr was a former marine who held the position of vice admiral. At least until the day his wife and child were killed by a pirate and he swore vengeance on the pirates and Marines alike. Z began to create the Neo Marines, a tactical group focused on eliminating all pirates on sight. They also eliminated any real Marines who got in their way.
Z’s entire plan was to flood the entire world in Magma. This would end the Golden Age of Piracy and force the pirates of the world to give up their dreams. If not for the work of the Straw Hats, he would have succeeded. Armed with great fighting skills, and an arm made of pure seastone, many fans were sad to see him die at the end of the movie. His philosophy would have been interesting to look at during the final saga.
2. Bullet
Douglas Bullet is one of the strongest filler characters. He really made the most of every scene he was in in One Piece: Stampede. Bringing some of the world’s biggest pirates together for a treasure hunt of epic proportions, he was able to challenge the entire Worst Generation. He could hold his own in battle with all of the Straw Hats. He was even powerful enough to boast about killing the four Emperors once he got his full Devil Fruit power.
With a Buster Call on the way and a maddened Bullet rampaging, it takes pirates, warlords, and marines teaming up to take Bullet down. Bullet is an extremely interesting villain with his abilities. Coupled with the fact that he knew and was grieving for Gol D Roger. It could be fun to explore his character during the Final Saga. Many fans are hoping that this bullet gets fired again!
1. Byrnndi World
There are a lot of superpowered Devil Fruits in the world of One Piece. Even the less powerful ones are often used in amazing and creative ways. While the powerful ones are extremely powerful. Byrnndi World had one of the latter fruits. He possed the Moa Moa no Mi, which allowed him to increase the size and speed of any object he touched by up to 100 times. He could do this with anything, and that proved to be trouble for the Straw Hats!
There was a reason why so many people called Byrnndi World the “destroyer of worlds”, and why both marines and pirates teamed up to take him down. When World broke out of Impel Down and began his revenge plan against the World Government, the entire world shook in its boots. He was able to use his powers creatively and even hold his own against Luffy. He’s a threat that could have easily shaken the world during the Final Saga!
Maybe These Characters Will Appear!
Many of these characters ended their respective filler appearances dead, arrested, or otherwise disposed of. Still, they could reappear again. One Piece, as well anime in general, is no stranger to having people from past arcs return. For many fans, being able to explore these interesting characters in the world of One Piece canon would be very interesting.
With the Final Saga heating up and forcing every single character towards their destinies, having these characters appear would be a fantastic twist. We can only hope that these characters appear, but until then we have their memorable appearances to keep us happy and to help us dream about what could be.
