There are a lot of powerful Devil Fruits out in the world. However, none are more powerful than the mythical Zoan type Devil fruits. Snake-Snake Fruitis one of these Zoan type fruits. It is a scaled violet fruit with triangular shaped leaves.
Eating the fruit allows the user access to two transformations. The first is a hybrid transformation and the second is a full transformation into the Yamata no Orochi. An eight-headed snake or dragon in Japanese mythology. This fruit has a massive role in the story and is also an interesting fruit, so let’s delve into it.
What Are The Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits?
First, this Devil Fruit is one of the Zoan Devil Fruits, so what are they? The mythical Zoan Devil Fruits are Devil Fruits that allow their users to transform into mythical creatures. These include creatures like the Nine-Tailed Fox and the Phoenix.
These fruits also allow for the transformations to have extra abilities as well. For example, the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix has the ability to heal using its blue flames. All of these fruits are extremely powerful, and many of them have been eaten by various characters throughout the One Piece series.
Who Are Some Zoan Devil Fruit Users?
For starters, two members of the Straw Hats are Zoan Devil Fruit Users. Tony Tony Chopper ate the Hito Hito no Mi which allows him to turn into a human reindeer. While Monkey D. Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi. This fruit was later revealed to be the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.
The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika is a mythical type Zoan Devil Fruit that allows the user to become an incarnation of the playful Sun God Nika! Which suits Luffy just fine for sure! As his Devil Fruit continues to awaken, we will hopefully get to see the true power of the fruit during the Final Saga.
What Does The Snake-Snake Fruit Do?
The Snake-Snake Fruit keeps the body of the user the same, but grants them eight separate heads with long necks. Almost making them look like a massive hydra. With the multiple heads and mouths, the user of the fruit can take full advantage of their enhanced speed and strength. They can maneuver each of the heads independently of the others and attack separately.
The fruit also enhances the user’s durability and also helps to shield the user from decapitation. The user will need to be beheaded eight times in order to finally die. However, they can’t regenerate any heads they have already lost.
Who Owned The Snake-Snake Fruit?
Kurozumi Orochi was one of the last members of the Kurozumi family. He eventually seized the throne of Wano County with the help of Kaidou. He was given his Devil Fruit by Kurozumi Higurashi, and began hoarding money and weapons for a planned takeover of the country. After he built up a power base, he confronted and captured the Shogun’s son: Kozuki Oden.
With the help of Kaidou, Orochi was able to keep a tight hold on the county of Wano. He crushed all who opposed him, while living in paranoid fear of the Nine Red Scabbards who were prophesied to overthrow him.
What Happened To Orochi?
The Straw Hats would eventually come to Wano, coming into conflict with Orochi and Kaidou. As the Straw Hats formed an alliance with people who wanted to free Wano, Orochi and the Beast Pirates made plans to stop their rebellion. However, Orochi soon found that Kaidou had a plan of his own.
Kaidou announced his “New Onigashima” project. Which would take the entire county’s population as slaves while it would become a paradise for pirates. When Orochi objected to Kaidou’s plans for the flower capital, he was beheaded.
The First Head Lost
Orochi managed to survive and decided to slaughter everyone in the building to get revenge. As he lit the building on fire, he came into contact with his old enemies: The Nine Red Scabbards. Since they were injured from fighting Kaidou, Orochi transformed. He taunted them about the losses they had suffered, before fighting them himself.
However, the Scabbards managed to slash off six of his seven remaining heads and left Orochi for dead. The former shogun snuck through the castle and took shelter, plotting to have one of his minions blow up the entire island.
The Final Head Lost
Orochi soon found the woman he loved: Komurasaki, playing her instrument and laid beside her, completely smitten. But before he could attempt to leave the doomed castle with her, the ceiling collapsed. Orochi was unable to use his Devil Fruit to get out of the rubble. Komurasaki then revealed that she had planted a seastone nail on him, and she was the daughter of the fallen Kozuki Oden.
Despite Orochi’s pleas, he was unable to be freed and was soon lit on fire by one of his men. The fire and the outside battles did dislodge the seastone nail and he turned into his hydra form. But before he could kill Komurasaki, Denjiro (one of the Nine Red Scabbards) appeared and beheaded him for the final time.
Where Is The Snake-Snake Fruit Now?
After the death of Orochi, the Devil Fruit returned to circulation and it has not been seen since. Since it is one of the powerful mythical zoan type fruits, it is unlikely that it will remain hidden for long. Someone is going to get their hands on that fruit and use its power, but who that someone is remains to be seen.
But that person is going to play a big role in the Final Saga for sure! It is going to be interesting to see where it goes in the story. The fruit could really be something that tips the scales in any side’s favor. Whether it will be an ally or an enemy of the Straw Hats, it will certainly be an interesting site to see on the battlefield.
