One Piece has finally reached the final moments of Egghead Arc. And as someone who has watched the entire arc grabbing to the edge of their seats, the entire thing was a blast. However, fans have been left with their guts wrenched and their hearts broken with how Vegapunk has been treated. Seemingly taking his last breaths, the scientist had a good run, but is it really the end of his lifespan? is Vegapunk truly going to die on Egghead ?
Vegapunk is the most impressive scientist in One Piece. He has been credited with any major scientific breakthrough. But recently, with Kizaru and Saturn trying to kill him, his fate remains uncertain. But we won’t be proud One Piece fans if we don’t do a little speculating now, would we? So, let’s see what we think might happen to Vegapunk in the upcoming chapters!
Vegapunk’s Fate
Since the beginning of the Egghead arc, Vegapunk’s fate has been foreshadowed. Even one of the satellites responsible for Logic, Shaka, talked to Dragon. During his conversation, he stated that Vegapunk doesn’t have long to live. This was a clear indication that Vegapunk might end up dead; however, no one expected it was going to be like this. Although Vegapunk recently received a Boon in the shape of the Strawhats, the future still looks bleak.
Additionally, there’s no chance of Vegapunk joining the Strawhats because of the sheer number of them. Luffy clearly stated that he would have 10 crew members. With Vegapunks being split into seven individuals, it’s unlikely that he would join the Strawhats. This not only contradicts the lore setup but also has technical limitations. For instance, as a mangaka, it would be extremely difficult for Oda to provide proper disposition to each member of the Vegapunk family. Especially with such a delicate structure already being set up within the crew. Although the number can be cut down.
As Bonney and Kuma would like to be traveling aboard the Sunny, there’s a high chance that not many of Vegapunk’s satellites remain. We already saw Shaka getting shot, and Pythagoras was killed as well.
Injuries He Sustained
As for the main body of Vegapunk, Stella ended up receiving several grave injuries. Although his situation looks dire, fans speculate about his survival. This is because the world of One Piece is based upon dreams and their completion. The only character who couldn’t realize their dream was Kuina, but she had Zoro taking over for her. As for Vegapunk, he desires to make a lot of scientific discoveries. Especially the one where he dreams of unlimited energy for the world.
There are quite a few plot points that still need Vegapunk to survive, or else they may never be answered. However, this doesn’t mean that his life is in danger. Stella got stabbed right through the chest by Saturn. And later, even Kizaru completely went through him with his light sword. The poor scientist never got a break as the number of life-threatening injuries continued to pile up. Even though he is alive for now, there’s no saying how the arc might end for the old soul.
Will The Satellites Survive?
In one case, there is a chance that the Satellites use their own selves as an obstacle for Saturn and Kizaru, allowing the Strawhats to run away with Stella. Although this is a very plausible course of action, the effect it might have on Vegapunk isn’t trivial. This is all the family he has known, and to lose all of them would devastate the scientist. Additionally, as it’s his own consciousness split into multiple bodies, we have no idea what might happen to him.
However, Strawhats don’t seem to have too many options right now, as they get swarmed by the Marines. Additionally, the survival of the main body, along with the knowledge to reconstruct the satellites, takes precedence. He is also pretty close with the Giants, and his survival could prove pivotal for the next arc.
Could He Possibly Escape?
One of the biggest turning points in Egghead was possibly the reveal of Distorted Future. This ability could be the vessel responsible for Vegapunk’s escape. In all likelihood, if Bonney could see Kuma’s ability just to throw people far away, She could emulate that ability to allow everyone to run away. Additionally, she could use her ability to alter Luffy’s future and provide him full control over Gear 5 without having any repercussions from using it. He can fight his way through the entire marine forces.
There are quite a few possibilities that would allow the Strawhats and Vegapunk to get away from Egghead. Additionally, there are other people involved that might be able to make a difference. Dragon has been seen making his way to Egghead Island. If he makes it there in time, he could turn the tides of the battle. Another agent would be Kuma himself; as he makes his way away from Sakazuki on Mary Geiose, he could reach Egghead to protect Bonney. There’s also the mysterious Iron Giant that Luffy seems to be able to control. This Giant is some lost technology from the Void Century and was even beyond the comprehension of Vegapunk.
Vegapunk’s Last Announcement
Although there are quite a few avenues that the main body could take to escape, what happens if it can’t? Vegapunk, being the genius he is, has set up one last contingency plan in case he dies. This plan includes him using a worldwide broadcast to expose the world’s reality. These revelations might include information about the Void Century, what the World Government has done, and who the Marines really are.
This could be the reason the final battle ends up happening while the marine splits into two. One that followed this warped justice of the World Nobles, like Sakazuki, while others joined the rebellion, like Fujitora. However, this would only happen in case Vegapunk has no way of surviving because it would put an even bigger target on his back.
