Samuel Deats, the director behind the hit Netflix animated series Castlevania, has asked fans on social media what his next project should be. As expected, the replies were flooded with enthusiastic comments ranging from an animated adaptation of Metroid to Bloodborne (naturally). Others also suggested Deats be in charge of a new, fresh take on the legendary Berserk manga from the late Kentaro Miura.
PC Gamer first posed the question on social media which attracted the attention of Castlevania director Samuel Deats. He asked fans, “What might you like to see me and my team animate some day? A video game of your choice is now getting an anime spinoff? Which is it?”
The most popular choice from fans was an animated adaptation of Bloodborne, which actually has quite a lot in common with Castlevania thematically and on some level, its dark fantasy aesthetic.
Others also mentioned a new adaptation of Berserk, based on the popular manga. There were some incomplete attempts to adapt Berserk in the past to varying degrees of success, though the fandom is still waiting on a true take that fully adapts the iconic manga’s stories and arcs to completion (though the manga is still ongoing as of writing). Like Castlevania, it also has a grim aesthetic with its dark fantasy backdrop – something that went on to directly inspire From Software’s Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
Some comments also named Final Fantasy, Mass Effect and Elden Ring, though the most liked choices overall were Bloodborne and Berserk. Whether or not Deats actually plans to adapt these properties is anyone’s guess – it’s very possible that he might’ve been trying to gauge interests from the community, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, Adi Shankar, who also served as a co-producer on Netflix’s Castevania, recently released a Devil May Cry animated series on the streaming service to mostly positive reviews.
