Who is Eustass “Captain” Kid?
Eustass “Captain” Kid is a notorious and powerful pirate in the One Piece manga and anime. Possessing globally recognized strength, he is one of the main antagonists during the Sabaody Archipelago, Punk Hazard, and Egghead arcs. Also, he is often defined by his ruthless and aggressive nature, making him a formidable force within the pirate world.
Kid’s Motivation in One Piece
Kid’s ambition runs parallel with Monkey D. Luffy. Plus, too dreams of becoming the Pirate King, a title that signifies the ruler of the seas and the one who discovers the legendary treasure, One Piece. Kid’s approach, however, often clashes with Luffy’s more altruistic and adventurous nature. However, Kid is willing to achieve his dreams through violence and chaos, leading to confrontations with other powerful pirates, including the Yonko.
What we do know is that Eustass Kid rose to prominence as one of the “Worst Generation” pirates, a group of rookie pirates known for their exceptional strength and questionable actions. Before becoming a prominent figure in the pirate world, he had most-likely experienced a history of hardships, challenges, and ambitions that shaped him into the formidable and ruthless captain he is now.
How Strong is Eustass “Captain” Kid?
Kid possesses the powerful Magnet-Magnet Fruit (Jiki Jiki no Mi), which grants him the ability to manipulate magnetic forces. And, with this power, he can attract, repel, and control metallic objects, including weapons and ships. This ability makes him a dangerous and versatile combatant, as he can create devastating attacks and defense strategies using metal manipulation. Think Magneto, but a less-smart pirate version. He refuses to use Haki though, and this proves to be a potentially game-ending mistake.
Who Makes Up Captain Kid’s Pirate Crew?
Now, let’s dive in to the aggregate that form’s the captain’s backbackbone. Kid is the captain of the “Kid Pirates,” a crew known for their violent and chaotic tendencies. With his distinctive metal left arm – a result of his encounter with the Shichibukai, Bartholomew Kuma – Kid stands out among the vast array of unique characters in the One Piece universe.
Killer
Kid’s right-hand man and one of the most loyal members of the crew, Killer is a formidable warrior and a skilled swordsman. He is known for wearing a distinctive mask that hides his face. Like Kid, Killer is determined to support his captain’s ambitions and is highly devoted to their cause.
Heat
A member of the Kid Pirates known for his fire-based abilities. He is a member of the Franky Family, a group of ship dismantlers. He plays a role during the Water 7 arc in the series. Also, Heat has the power to control and generate fire at an alarming rate, making him a dangerous adversary in battle.
Wire
“Wire” is a crew member with the ability to manipulate wires and use them as deadly weapons. With this, he can create snares, ensnare opponents, and even use the wires for long-range attacks. At an earlier point in life, he ran gang operations on the island with Kid, Killer, and Heat. This shows that, behind his mopish silence, there is a lot of potential.
Jewelry Bonney (an unlikely ally)
Although not an official member of the crew, Jewelry Bonney is an ally of the Kid Pirates. She is a powerful pirate in her own right, capable of manipulating her age and the age of others using her Devil Fruit ability, the Age-Age Fruit.
The Sabaody Archipelago Arc
When the Straw Hat Pirates arrive at Sabaody Archipelago, they encounter several members of the Worst Generation, including Eustass Kid. At this time, kid and his crew are causing havoc and destruction, as they typically do, and this draws the attention of the Marines and the Navy. Kid’s notorious reputation as a violent and brutal pirate precedes him, making him a formidable force on the island.
Kid’s Injury Sustained in the Summit War of Marineford
As the arc progresses, Kid and his crew face off against the Pacifista, powerful cyborgs created by the Navy, indicating the level of threat they pose to the World Government. Later, when the Straw Hat Pirates and Kid’s crew encounter a group of Celestial Dragons, the situation escalates.
However, Kid, like Luffy, has no regard for their status and ends up attacking one of them, resulting in the wrath of the Navy. Kid avoids the wrath of the Marines, but later loses his arm in a fight with Shanks; one of the four emperors.
The Egghead Arc
Skipping over the Punk Hazard Arc – due to the fact that Eustass Kid doesn’t play a big role – The Egghead arc is where Kid possibly met his end. Sailing on a route chosen by the captain himself, the crew manages to make it to Elbaf. A fight with the Red Hair Pirates begins to unfold, as ancient foe Shanks foresees the catastrophe Kid will create.
Shanks refuses to allow this to continue, and has a deep hatred for the pirate.
Kid’s Defeat At Sea
After a brief interaction, Shanks uses his legendary Kamusari, creating a powerful slash attack. It cuts through Kids Damned Punk, striking him right in the chest. The crew pleads for mercy, but it falls on deaf ears. Shanks sinks the ship along with its crew. Nobody is exactly sure what follows these events.
Is Captain Kid Dead In One Piece?
Although the series has never been known to kill off its characters – outside of the occasional flashback – it looks like Captain Kid and Crew have sailed their last voyage. There are a few things to take into account though. For one, Captain Kidd is one of the only characters in the One piece universe that manages to solely rely on devil fruit powers. The fact that he has survived this long is a testament to his strength. After the time skip, he managed to show quite a bit of growth in the field. Who knows what the future holds.
