Jujutsu Kaisen’s second season finally releases on July 6th, after two long years off the air as MAPPA employees work around the clock fueled by coffee and cigarettes. While manga readers know what chaos is about to happen, anime watchers may want a refresher on where left off, and the important things to keep an eye out for this season.
The first season ended with Itadori and Nobara stopping two out of three Cursed Womb paintings, a hybrid of humans and curses, only Choso is left to avenge the death of his brothers in his alliance with Mahito the cursed spirit and Geto the sorcerer, with the oldest of the Cursed Womb Paintings being the strongest and most resilient of the three.
New Enemies in Jujutsu Kaisen
For those that caught the prequel movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the question of Geto’s seeming escape from death will be answered as flashbacks are given in the upcoming Shibuya arc about the immediate fallout from the movie. Things aren’t entirely as they seem, and Geto’s true plans have yet to be revealed, though some of his past will be at the beginning of this season with a flashback to their youth as students at JuJutsu High.
While the Star Plasma Vessel arc, itself a flashback, gives information about Geto’s history it also gives a look at Gojo and who he is, while expanding more on his powers and role as The Six Eyes, the powerful Jujutsu trait (no, it isn’t Sharingan). Fushiguro even gets some essential plot development too, with the arc introducing his father- a mercenary sorcerer with a bad gambling problem.
The Jujutsu World Will Change Forever
The flashback won’t be all there is to the season, with the real excitement coming in the following Shibuya Incident arc, where the alliance of Cursed Spirits enacts their grand plan, unleashing an attack on Shibuya Station in Japan on Halloween night, killing dozens of citizens and prompting an emergency response from all Jujutsu sorcerers. Manga readers have been eagerly awaiting this arc thanks to some of the best fights in the series and the fantastic character depth it gives. While the fights are sure to please, make sure to prepare for some tears as well.
What to Know about Jujutsu Kaisen
- Fushguro has already been a noted black sheep in the Megumi clan, preferring to distance himself from the family name, with both arcs dealing with the history.
- The rivalry between Mei and Maki runs deep and will result in a massive, game-changing event in the Jujutsu world.
- Yuji is still unaware of his Vow made with Sukuna to come back to life, with no idea when it could take effect.
- Some of Geto’s cult from Jujutsu Kaisen 0 are still alive, and looking for revenge.
- The Special Grade Cursed Spirits in Mahito’s group will each reveal the terrifying extent of their powers, with the cuddly giant Dagon possessing a Domain Expansion that causes widespread damage.
It might not seem like it, but the Shibuya arc will likely take up the majority of Jujutsu Kaisen’s second season, with multiple disastrous battles and even more character moments taking place throughout the subway tunnels as the sorcerers fight for their lives and to protect citizens. With the Curse team’s plan still unknown, the Sorcerers will have to fight for their lives at every second just to make it out of the barrier, and some may not return.
