The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered shadow dropped yesterday on consoles and PC (including Game Pass), which was a big surprise for fans of the classic open-world RPG. One of the joys of playing a Bethesda title is the gracious mod support that prolonged the lifespan of games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 – especially since mods were made available on consoles too. However, Bethesda has now confirmed that Oblivion Remastered won’t have mod support, at least not in any official capacity.
Bethesda’s official Creation Club, a hub for community and developer-created mods, won’t be available for Oblivion Remastered on consoles and PC. A post on Reddit which dug through Bethesda’s help page on its official website confirmed this, meaning players won’t be able to mod the game.
However, this doesn’t mean mods are impossible. If you’re playing Oblivion Remastered on PC, there are several unofficial modding websites like Nexus Mods that currently allow you to mod the game (with whatever mods have been created and uploaded since yesterday, at least). Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Bethesda has intentions of implementing its Creation mods on the console versions, which is a bummer since it’s a big reason why so many players still enjoy Skyrim to this day.
There’s still a lot to appreciate about the effort developers Bethesda and Virtuos have put into Oblivion Remastered, including the improved gameplay and visuals, making it the best-looking Elder Scrolls game yet. Players can freely explore Cyrodiil and relive the story of the original game, which follows an unnamed hero who must fulfill a prophecy after the gates of Oblivion begin opening around Tamriel, sending the entire continent into chaos and war with the Daedric prince, Mehrunes Dagon.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. According to a new report, Bethesda is apparently working on a Nintendo Switch 2 port as well.
