For some time, The Five Elders were quite mysterious, but we’ve learned quite a bit.
In the past, we talked about the Celestial Dragons or World Nobles running the show, while Imu pulls the strings behind them. That said, there is a link in the chain that still needs to be addressed: Who are the Five Elders, and do they deserve our attention? Hopefully, this analysis below will give you a better idea of what our beloved pirates and revolutionaries are up against.
Who Are The World Nobles?
It’s probably for the best that this assessment starts with a brief overview of the class the Five Elders stem from. The Celestial Dragons or World Nobles are aristocratic descendants of the creators of the World Government in One Piece. They live in Marijois, flaunting immense privilege and cruelty. Their power stems from their divine status and manipulation of government, symbolizing the series’ themes of inequality and corruption.
One Rank Above Nobility
The Five Elders are depicted as elderly men who wear traditional and ornate robes, adorned with various symbols of authority. Their advanced age and apparent wisdom suggest they have held their positions for a considerable time, overseeing the World Government’s operations and influencing its policies. Their appearance and mannerisms exude an aura of authority and control, symbolizing their unmatched power and influence.
Currently, the origins of the Elders’ appointments and their duration of authority remain undisclosed. Nevertheless, their consistent location is within the Room of Authority at Pangaea Castle. Like all other World Nobles, they reside within the Holy Land of Mariejois, an exclusive location that serves as the seat of the World Government. This fortified and secretive place houses the largest and most influential of the series’ institutions.
Known Activity In One Piece
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Five Elders is their connection to the world’s history and the Void Century—a mysterious period that remains largely unknown due to the government’s efforts to erase all records of it. The Gorosei possess extensive knowledge about the Void Century, making them guardians of an immense secret that could potentially reshape the world’s understanding of its past.
The Five Elders also wield considerable power through their control of the CP-0, the most elite and secretive branch of the World Government’s intelligence and espionage network. CP-0 operates with utmost secrecy and directly reports to the Gorosei. This further emphasizes the Elders’ influence over the government’s covert operations and the manipulation of global events.
One of the most pivotal roles the Five Elders played in the story was their oversight of the Shichibukai, a group of powerful pirates who collaborate with the government in exchange for certain privileges. The Elders decided which pirates were granted this status and had the authority to revoke it. That is until it proved unstable. These figures held an insane amount of control, once managing two of the Three Great Powers of the One Piece universe. It’s worth discussing them individually. The Chapter 1086 of One Piece manga reveals the name of the Five Elders!
Jaygarcia Saturn
Saint Jay Garcia Saturn has been making a few notable appearances in the manga. Because of his deeds and position, he serves as the central antagonist of the Egghead Arc and, alongside the fellow Elders, assumes the role of a secondary antagonist in the overarching One Piece narrative, particularly during its Final Saga. He holds the title of Warrior God of Science and Defense.
Marcus Mars
Saint Marcus Mars can come across as rather stoic. However, there are cases where his personality shines through. Amid the Ohara Incident, he displayed politeness towards Clover, recognizing the scholar’s accomplishments and rationalizing the risks tied to reawakening the ancient weapons. When he issued the directive to eliminate the scholars, Mars exhibited profound discomfort and embarrassment. Currently he holds the position of Warrior God of Environment. Fans do not have much knowledge as to what this position entails.
Topman Warcury
Saint Topman Warcury holds the position of Warrior God of Justice, which would make you think he really has a strong foothold in the overall hierarchy. He exhibits a sense of patience, as evident from his willingness to watch Shanks’ possibly menacing actions without hastening interference. That said, we think it’s fair to say that Warcury is far from sanguine. He expressed heightened frustration and disgust towards Crocodile and Luffy for disturbing the equilibrium by Luffy’s removal of Crocodile from the Seven Warlords of the Sea, deeming Luffy’s actions unforgivable. It’s safe to say he’ll play a key role in events to come.
Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro
Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro holds the title of Warrior God of Finance. Like Mars, the position Nusjuro holds is shrouded in mystery. We gather it’s a monetary role (obviously), but there’s no real information about the specifics of his commerce-related position. It could be argued that it’s just symbolic. This aside, he has shown unexpected flexibility, but this is overwhelmed by his disdain for those who challenge his authority.
Shepherd Ju Peter
Saint Shephard Ju Peter possesses insights into the genuine attributes of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and regards the potential menace linked to this particular Devil Fruit with grave concern. Upon Warcury highlighting its legendary reputation, Ju Peter countered by inquiring about the government’s rationale for rechristening a Devil Fruit. What makes Ju Peter somewhat unique is how he once questioned Imu; the dark head of the World Government. Although he followed orders to destroy an entire country, he nonetheless showed slight resistance. This Warrior God of Agriculture might turn the tide late game.
Who are Gorosei in One Piece ?
The Five Elders, or Gorosei, are a group of five mysterious figures in the world of One Piece. Their advanced age, influence over the World Government, and connection to the Void Century make them central to the series’ overarching narrative. Also, the fact that they separate themselves habitually and stylistically from other World Nobles indicates that they have some individuality. Despite their limited screen time in the anime, their decisions and actions ripple throughout the world. They shape the destinies of both pirates and nations.
Throughout the series, Gorosei’s motives and allegiances remain shrouded in mystery, leaving fans to speculate on their true intentions. Their apparent devotion to maintaining order and control could suggest a darker side to their leadership, raising questions about the ethical implications of their decisions. It could be argued they stand for nothing, following the orders of Imu and hiding secrets of the Void Century. However, their position in the World Government shows they are – at the very least – capable.
The mystery surrounding their motives and their ties to the hidden past of the world only adds to their allure. It will be fun to see what comes next!
