Luffy just tossed Kizaru like a pizza and it was the least wild moment in One Piece Chapter 1109. Bringing the pain to Kizaru and Saturn is only the beginning of the chapter though, because Vegapunk’s message is going out to the world. Everyone from Water 7 to Foosha Village is hearing it too. Although Vegapunk is giving a little time for everyone to get ready. It appears the good doctor has taken some precautions, and as the message begins to roll, the Gorosei get desperate like never before.

What Happens in Chapter 1109?
The chapter begins with Luffy getting a hold of both Saturn and Kizaru, holding them both at bay in Gear Fifth. That’s before smacking them together, of course, flattening them into pancakes and hurling them away. Saint Jay Garcia Saturn comes flying back at him, intent not to let Luffy get the better of him. Kizaru on the other hand collapses on one of the Buster Call ships in a daze. He’s taken a hit after hit this arc, even before Saint Saturn came into the fight, so it’s not really surprising. The poor dude has been through the ringer against not just Luffy in Gear Fifth, but Snakeman even before that.
While the fight is going down between Luffy and Saturn, Vegapunk’s message begins to broadcast. Everyone gets a brief check-in, with Iceberg in Water 7 making sure everyone is awake and watching the message. Things get real, especially when Luffy’s hometown of Foosha Village gets the message, though they don’t have a video snail to watch it. They’re going to listen though, and likely be part of the shocking events soon to follow. Vegapunk is a trusted figure, so promising to show everyone the world’s true history is something they believe whole wholeheartedly.
Gear Fifth’s Power
We’ve seen some major examples of strength from Gear Fifth already, but damn this is something else. Seriously, even with rocketing out of Kaido’s eyes, that was nothing compared to flattening a Gorosei. Especially when flattening that Gorosei right alongside a Navy Admiral who’s the embodiment of light itself. The fact that he can flatten then throw them like a tossed pizza dough is one of the funniest things he’s ever done in Gear Fifth too. It’s ridiculous that he’s able to put up this much fight against a Gorosei at this point, especially after battles with Lucci and Kizaru too.
The battle is nowhere near over either, and when Saturn goes up against Luffy again, he shows why he’s a Gorosei. He’s insanely powerful, even knocking Luffy around a bit before the Straw Hat Captain takes control of the fight again. After giving him a huge beatdown, it seems like things are looking rough for the World Government, and Luffy has the advantage in the fight. The entire time Saturn is fighting with Luffy, he’s communicating with the others back in Mary Geoise through some seeming telepathy.
Vegapunk’s Transmission Begins
When the transmission starts, everyone around the world stops in their tracks. Vegapunk and the others figured out how to hack the Navy’s transmission, meaning the signal goes through the entire world. That also means it’s incredibly hard for them to stop the broadcast. They’re unable to cut off the message without either finding the source or severing their network. This brings the World Government to a conundrum. Vegapunk makes them believe that the central broadcasting tower is Punk Records in the Upper Labosphere. That sounds too easy though, and fans believe instead Vegapunk has a “dead man’s switch”. If not, he has a proxy sending it.
Fans theorize that the signal is actually originating from the Kamabakka Kingdom, with the Revolutionaries in control. It wouldn’t be past Vegapunk to leave it with someone he trusts to share the information. Not to mention Shaka, the Good side of Vegapunk, was on a call with Dragon. That was back when the Straw Hats first arrive on Egghead Island. It’s highly likely the signal is somewhere other than Egghead, that way the World Government can’t just cut it off as easily. That also means there’s more time to prepare the transmission, and some think that only this part is pre-recorded, with a live feed cutting in after the “ten minutes” the Vegapunks agree on.
Around the World
It’s always cool getting check-ins around the world, especially with characters that the Straw Hats have seen in their adventures. Mayor Iceberg wakes up right in the middle of the night. He tells his secretary that this is something historical happening. They order every dock in Water 7 to set up video screens. Then advise all citizens to come out and watch what’s about to happen. Meanwhile, Foosha Village, Luffy’s hometown, can’t even afford a video snail, much less a decent audio one. Still, for their hometown Emperor, they’re willing to pay attention. Vegapunk’s broadcast, especially considering the news in the paper lately, has everyone’s attention.
Everyone knows about the unfolding Egghead Incident thanks to Morgans, but even this is shocking for him. It’s also the first sign we’ve had of Vivi and Wapol since last seeing their reaction to Cobra’s death. Vivi especially is worried about what’s going on, and it looks like Morgans is about to lose his feathers over the massive scoops going down all over the place. As Vegapunk squabbles amongst themselves, everyone prepares to receive this life-changing message that the good doctor is about to reveal. They have no idea what it’s going to entail though, and are about to be blown away.
Summoning the Gorosei
Saturn is just having a really bad time with everything going down on Egghead Island. First their lead doctor studies the Void Century, and then his human weapon Buccaneer shows up with a vengeance. Now he’s fighting the reincarnation of Nika through Luffy, an Emperor of the Sea. One who is literally and figuratively folding him in battle. Saturn just doesn’t have the advantage right now. So of course he’s going to take the easy way out and try to gank Luffy by summoning backup. This shows off way more of the Gorosei’s power set too. Not only do they share telepathic abilities, but they can teleport apparently.
The chapter ends with Luffy looking around the battlefield as the same circles that brought Saturn to the field appear. The other Gorosei are on their way, teleporting straight to Egghead from their place atop Mary Geoise. Luffy was already having quite a fight with just Saturn, and as strong as Gear Fifth is, all five Gorosei may be too many for him to face. That said, it’s not like Luffy will have to face him alone, because there are a few more fighters inbound to them right now. Including one that’s been teased since the beginning of the arc, though we haven’t seen nearly what it’s capable of.
When Will Chapter 1110 Drop?
Next week is going to be a break week for One Piece. That means it’s a two-week wait for the next chapter. Expect to see it around March 17th, if not a little earlier with spoilers/leaks dropping. This chapter could go either way, with Void Century history revealed by Vegapunk. Or just the continuing battle with the Five Elders. If the Void Century information takes precedence, then expect a good chapter or two of exposition. It’s time to find out what happened eight hundred years ago. There’s another theory that the transmission will also cut to a live feed of Egghead Island during the transmission, revealing the full carnage the World Government is bringing down. Plus the real, monstrous forms of the Five Elders are there now.
If things stay focused on Luffy though, the fight is going to escalate wildly from here. Every one of the Gorosei is inbound, but Luffy also has a backup on the way. Dorry, Broggy, and hopefully the now awake Iron Giant are heading his way. Their size will be needed too, because the Gorosei’s monster forms so far are stupid big. Even then though, the goal of Luffy’s fight against all of these foes isn’t to defeat them, but to instead make time for the rest of his crew to escape. Now that the group with Franky is safe with the Giant Pirates, it won’t be long until the others are gathered.
Egghead Island keeps delivering week after week, and Oda ends the chapter before a break week with plenty to discuss. The battle will be winding down between Luffy and the Gorosei before too long, though it won’t end well for anyone involved. Meanwhile, everyone is holding their breath to finally find out the truth of the Void Century, teased first all the way back in Arabasta by Crocodile. It’s been a long time coming, but Chapter 1109 of One Piece finishes laying the groundwork for Egghead’s greatest event yet.
