One Piece introduced the power of Devil Fruit Awakening all the way back in Dressrosa. Even still, we’ve barely seen any real Awakenings for Devil Fruit powers, and at that, only two of the three types! A ton of other Devil Fruits deserve the Awakening treatment like Luffy’s. These are just a few of them, with characters that not only deserve a good powerup, but something new to keep them in the fight. The New World keeps getting more dangerous after all.

What is Devil Fruit Awakening?
Awakening for Devil Fruits occurs when the user’s body finally catches up with the mind of the Devil Fruit. This can mean either something like a Paramecia Type turning the surrounding area into whatever the Fruit is, or Zoan Type Awakenings. These make the user stronger, and faster, and usually mean they’ve fully come into harmonization with the Fruit their animal is based on. That said, the opportunities for Devil Fruit Awakenings vary Fruit by Fruit, with no two having the same effect.
As far as the Awakenings revealed in the story to date, only Zoan and Paramecia have been shown. The first to make an appearance was Donquixote Doflamingo’s String-String Fruit, which made the surrounding buildings of Dressrosa into string. From there we’ve seen others like Katakuri, Luffy, Lucci, and Kaku Awaken their Devil Fruits in different ways. It’s only a theory, but Logia Types may end up being even more fantastical when it comes to their Awakening abilities.
12. Flower-Flower Fruit
Robin’s Flower-Flower Fruit allows her to sprout body parts or limbs wherever she pleases, even on other people. Although it originally started out with just being able to make hands, feet, and a few eyes and ears where she needs, she’s improved it a ton since then. Her Demonos Fleurs proves that she’s been working on it, and finding that she can make giant limbs out of hundreds of smaller ones has been a huge part of her arsenal. That said, with her abilities to create clones of herself coming up recently, it’s possible there may be even more in store for her Devil Fruit Awakening.
If she’s able to somehow combine the massive size of her newfound limb generation with her clones, it would be a wild Awakening. A massive Robin appearing to wipe out a World Government attack would be one of the most badass things for her to do. Plus it would fit in with all the growth Robin has been doing when it comes to protecting her friends from any dangers that come up. If anything, hopefully, it at least allows her to expand her Flower-Flower Fruit powers to hold her own in a one-on-one fight again.
11. Human-Human Fruit
Chopper’s Human-Human Fruit was one of the first Zoan Types to pop up in the story, and Luffy’s model was the first Zoan Awakening. It would only be fitting for the young reindeer to become one of the next Straw Hat Pirates to Awaken his Devil Fruit, turning it from the somewhat useless forms that Chopper has right now to an even greater offensive weapon. Chopper’s Monster Point might be considered a somewhat partial Awakening, but the finished product should be much, much stronger when he finally manages to unlock it.
That said, an Awakening for the Human-Human Fruit is a little strange to consider. Would it allow Chopper to surpass the Rumble Ball and reach something like Monster Point naturally? Or perhaps it would take the form of Monster Point but with an extreme power buff. If anything, it may give him a boost to his Brain Point power, allowing him to analyze foes much more quickly while in something like Monster Point. Either way, give Chopper a new power-up! It’s been forever!
10. Chop-Chop Fruit
As if Buggy the Clown needs to be any stronger, the Chop-Chop Fruit could lead to a major buff. This Paramecia lets the Clown Prince slice himself to pieces, levitating his now dismembered chunks to attack his enemies. While it doesn’t render him totally immune from damage, it’s the perfect Devil Fruit to capitalize on his flashy trickery. Usually, he’ll use it to attack enemies from behind, floating a hand with knives or a Buggy Ball behind them before taking them out swiftly. An Awakening for Buggy wouldn’t be too far out of the realm of possibility, although it might take a while with his more cowardly mindset.
The idea of the Chop-Chop Fruit and other Paramecia’s up to this point has been environmental manipulation for Awakenings. If Buggy was able to chop up whatever he wanted, it’s possible he could even slice and control enemies, leaving them in pieces. Then again, we’ve seen that same kind of power from Law’s Op-Op Fruit, so perhaps it would be limited to the environment instead of other people. The likelihood of letting it affect the environment is much higher, allowing Buggy to likely slice entire buildings if he so chooses.
9. Fish-Fish Fruit, Mythical Model: Azure Dragon
Okay, so maybe not the actual Azure Dragon model since Kaido is out of the running now, but instead Momo’s Pink version. His Devil Fruit may have been deemed a failure by Vegapunk, but that’s not to say that it really is. Momo has shown the ability to do everything else Kaido has with his power, even showing Conqueror haki using Bolo Breath. The only thing that’s keeping them apart is that Momonosuke still figuring out how to use his powers in his newly grown-up form. Remember, the kid is still mentally an eight-year-old, and the whole point of Awakenings is for the mind and body to catch up to the Devil Fruit.
Momonosuke is falling into his role as the protector and Shogun of Wano admirably though. Considering the Azure Dragon is a long-held creature of Wano legend, it’s unlikely he wouldn’t eventually gain a Devil Fruit Awakening. Momo is making it his purpose to protect those in his homeland, and he’s going to train with sword, claw, and dragon fire to ensure that Wano is never threatened again. An Awakening would only further that resolve, helping him to aid Luffy in the Final Saga to come.
8. Hollow-Hollow Fruit
Let’s be honest, One Piece just needs more Perona in the story. She’s a fan favorite, and her Hollow-Hollow Fruit always has interesting results on whoever the small ghosts pass through. These Negative Hollows cause intense depression in all who touch them, throwing them into the depths of self-loathing while Perona pummels them. It’s only fitting considering how she likes to step on the dreams of others that she would find her Devil Fruit Awakening.
It’s hard to consider how this would work as a Devil Fruit Awakening, possibly spawning thousands of Ghosts at once. The Negative Hollows could overwhelm foes, even driving some to off themselves in the process. That seems like an ability Perona could make pretty good use of if she chooses to. Otherwise, it may allow her to extend the ability without her Negative Hollows touching the enemy, allowing more covert attacks when needed.
7. Barrier-Barrier Fruit
Bartolomeo and his Barrier-Barrier Fruit are fit for pissing off any of those he comes up against. The Cannibal is able to hide from his foes in plain sight, with his barriers up to protect him as they wail away and he laughs. If the purpose of the Barrier-Barrier Fruit is to annoy the crap out of his enemies, Bartolomeo should be close to an Awakening almost immediately. It’s going to be a great ability to have for backing up Luffy though, helping to protect the pirates that were so influential on his dream.
An Awakening for Bartolomeo would be awesome to give him a power-up just like his idol. Although what it may do is a completely different ball game, considering he can already project barriers freely nearby, manipulating shape and size. Perhaps an Awakening would allow him to make more complicated Barrier-Barrier Fruit structures, even something like combat armor. He already creates one around his hand for his Barrier-Barrier Pistol to pay tribute to Luffy, so creating an armor from it wouldn’t be a bad upgrade.
6. Rumble-Rumble Fruit
Okay, so Enel hasn’t been seen for quite some time and his Rumble-Rumble Fruit was overpowered as is back in Skypiea. That said, it would be awesome to see him have a comeback with an even more powerful Devil Fruit Awakening. The Logia Types still have no precedent for what could happen, but imagine Enel being able to call down even more intense lightning than ever before. His El Thor would be nothing compared to the havoc he could wreak with this amount of explosive, electrifying power. If he ends up with an Awakening though, there’s the potential to turn the tides of battle completely in his favor.
Taking the idea of Paramecia’s allowing the transfer of their powers to other objects, Enel could turn anything into lightning. Assume he’s able to just electrify people from far away without even a lightning bolt, it would make him stupidly strong even compared to Blackbeard. Or he could potentially electrify all those around, turning the ground into bolts of lightning right beneath their feet. A whole load of ideas is possible until Oda confirms what Logia Awakenings will involve.
5. Shadow-Shadow Fruit
Gecko Moria is as good as dead in the story of One Piece at this point, with the former Warlord falling right into Blackbeard’s hands. That said, it wouldn’t be strange for the Blackbeard Pirates to just steal the Shadow-Shadow Fruit and give the power to one of their own. The ability to take shadows and control them as weapons or implant them in dead bodies has been evident for some time. There may have even been somewhat of a partial Awakening when Moria uses his Shadows Asgard, reclaiming all to create a massive creature of himself. A real Awakening would be so much more terrifying to those around though.
Usually, Moria has to snip the shadows off of his foes, though he can keep a supply and call back any he’s already snipped off at will. If he could potentially have the same powers as Big Mom, who can absorb souls from those weaker than her nearby, it would be a game changer. Especially fighting in a brightly lit area, as it would be instant death for anyone as soon as their shadow left them. Otherwise, the Awakening for this Fruit could end up as a similar power to the Dark-Dark Fruit. Perhaps Moria could make the shadows attack individually as copies of the people they are from though, without any new medium to channel them through.
4. Revive-Revive Fruit
Brook is one of the longest-living Devil Fruit users thanks to the Revive-Revive Fruit bringing him back after death. Now he’s found a ton more uses for it though, like channeling his soul into his music to freeze the very air around him. Hell, even in Egghead Island he’s showing the ability to freeze clouds as they roll the Sunny along them, making ice roads to escape the Upper Labosphere. Brook is constantly growing and improving, keeping his friends safe and even being able to scout ahead by expanding his soul now. The Revive-Revive Fruit poses another big possibility for him though, especially if he Awakens it.
Suppose he could totally sever his soul from his body, there’s a possibility Brook could possess someone. As is he can throw his soul around like a yo-yo, but it has to stay near his body. The other big surprise could be finding a way to revive others like he was able to himself. That could prove to be a much more dangerous ability though, possibly costing Brook his own life in the end. Soul King Brook deserves some good powerups though, or to at least keep his momentum of the previous arcs moving through Egghead.
3. Age-Age Fruit
Bonney has gone far in showing how stupidly overpowered the Age-Age Fruit can be, especially on Egghead. Not only can she manipulate her own age to grow big or small as needed, hiding in plain sight, but she can do the same to others. Her Near-Death Experience attack literally ages others to the point of death, making them glimpse the afterlife. She was even able to turn into a pseudo-version of Nika using Distorted Future, envisioning herself as growing up differently. The real question comes in how could Bonney make her Fruit more powerful through Awakening?
Simple, if it can revert or age people, could she possibly use distorted future on others? Imagine making Luffy into a more powerful version of himself, aging up into a more powerful version of Nika. Or even a more prolonged version of Distorted Future for herself, allowing full realization of nearly any Devil Fruit power if she can see it happening. There are so many possibilities for Bonney to get a major buff, and she’ll need it considering the Gorosei are after her now.
2. Flame-Flame Fruit
Alright, if there’s any Devil Fruit that’s been through hell and back to deserve an Awakening after all this time, it’s the Flame-Flame Fruit. First Ace showed some of the immense power it packs with just a scrappy fighter holding it, but then Sabo truly refined the Devil Fruit’s abilities. He’s able to channel it into his Dragon Claw technique, and even use a metal pipe to fly around by channeling his flames into it. If there’s anyone who needs to Awaken their Devil Fruit and stand beside Luffy in the Final Saga, it’s going to be Sabo.
A Logia Awakening for Sabo would likely entail creating fire from the objects around him. Not simply setting them on fire, but instead literally turning the material he chooses into a flame that he can bathe his enemies in. Sabo at least needs something big to give the Devil Fruit its proper weight, and considering he’s already this stupidly strong, it’s not far off. There’s another idea for Awakening that’s derived from how the last user died though.
Ace was killed because Akainu’s magma was hotter than his flames. Sabo could feasibly ramp up the heat of his flames, becoming even hotter much like Sanji did in Wano. Blue flames for Sabo would look pretty cool, after all.
1. Smoke-Smoke Fruit
The first of the Logia Type Devil Fruits to come into the story deserves to at least be the first Logia Awakening. Oda really owes it to Smoker at this point considering how absent the Vice-Admiral has been from the story. Especially considering even Tashigi got to be active in a rescue operation with Sword. The perfect redemption would be for Smoker to finally Awaken in his big turn to fight for true justice. His Smoke-Smoke Fruit could finally end up giving him the strength boost that he needs to stand up to those in charge, even more so since he was last seen getting beaten down by Vergo of all people.
Smoker would have some interesting options for Logia Awakening, possibly able to immediately disperse smoke across a wide area. It would make more sense for him to be able to create smoke out of the air instead of making it trail behind him. Adding to his battle ability, it would be great to give him somewhat of a smoke-and-mirrors style approach, with Awakening allowing solid smoke clones to fight. At least, that’s everyone’s hope if Smoker actually gets a few good moments to shine in the Final Saga.
There are plenty of other Devil Fruits that could Awaken any time, even plenty not listed here. It’s all a matter of the person’s mind and body catching up to use it though. So, plenty of other characters like Blackbeard could even Awaken their Devil Fruits eventually, maybe both of them at the same time. It’s going to be a wild ride through the Final Saga of One Piece either way though, with plenty more Devil Fruits and Awakenings yet to be revealed.
