What Happens in Episode 1080?
Episode 1080 of One Piece opens with a massive party starting in Udon, as chefs of Wano’s palace desperately cook. They’re making a huge spread for the entire Straw Hat Crew and their alliance, but when everything is finally ready and set out, only Jimbei is present. It figures, that since he’s by far the most polite Straw Hat when it comes to things like manners, meanwhile the rest are out in the festivities, especially Chopper, Yamato, and Luffy.
While everyone else parties, the Kid and Law Pirates learn the new bounties from Scratchmen Apoo. Luffy’s poster has a full picture of his Gear Fifth form, and the Gorosei are less than happy about the situation. Big News Morgans doesn’t care though, because this is the scoop of the century, and the presses are running hot. Meanwhile, Greenbull makes his way through the Udon region of Wano, where Kaido’s defeated subordinates are recovering from their wounds.
Straw Hat Party Time
Just like last week’s brief moments, it’s really nice to see the Straw Hats relax and have a good time. Onigashima has been going for almost a hundred episodes, while Wano as a whole is almost two hundred. Things have been dark as hell in the manga too for most of the arc, so now to see everyone have fun and get some free time without misery is nice. if only Jujutsu Kaisen could get on the trend of having happy episodes every so often.
The standouts were definitely seeing Luffy and Chopper show Yamato around the various festival stalls. They’ve all got big enough sweet tooths to eat everything there, but Chopper showing Yamato all his favorites is adorable. Then Brook gets a brief chance to stand up and lead a show as the Soul King, which is always fun to see. Too bad he doesn’t get a chance to actually sing, because it’s been a while since Brook got a chance to belt one out.
Greenbull Arrives at Udon
Wow, talk about a show of power for Greenbull. When he arrives at Udon, the Admiral faces down the tattered remains of the Beast Pirates. The scene of Queen and King fighting Greenbull is somewhat of an afterthought in the manga, so it’s nice that it could be expanded on here. It also really helps with the pacing, which has been much better in the past couple of episodes as opposed to most of the Onigashima Raid, which was incredibly awkwardly paced.
The fight itself is great, and also has a very important setup, mentioning how weakened the Beast Pirates are. Queen gives a damn good effort against Greenbull, and King has a solid fight too. Sadly their injuries are too much to keep up. Also, the sound when King is thrown to the ground sounds like an airplane crashing. An interesting choice, to say the least. Unfortunately for them, Greenbull leaves them drained and makes his way closer to the Flower Capital while monologuing about justice. He has a real crush on Akainu for some reason and wants to impress him by taking Wano.
New Emperors of the Sea
There’s a huge reveal near the middle of the episode as Scratchmen Apoo brings the latest newspaper to Wano. Big News Morgans is going wild with two Emperors leaving a vacancy, and he’s decided who to appoint. Kid is mad Luffy got the Emperor position, but he’s on his way to take him out for the title. Of course, that’s not going to work since there’s a massive party going on, but he’ll try.
The really surprising reveal for anime-only fans of the series is the other new Emperor- Buggy the Clown. Yes, the Genius Jester falls upwards once more in his journey through the Grand Line. It’s an incredible tale as to how it happens, and that will come in a later episode of One Piece.
Next for the Straw Hats
For now, things are about to get a little chaotic as Greenbull makes his way to crash the big party. He calls in a single warship, expecting to an easy fight against Straw Hat Luffy after his battle. What Greenbull doesn’t know is just how many incredibly strong fighters are currently present in the Flower Capital. He may not even find himself fighting the Straw Hats before he gets there!
One Piece Episode 1080 closes out with fireworks over the Flower Capital as Greenbull blooms a trail of flowers toward it. His Tree-Tree Fruit abilities are incredibly deadly and will be a major fight for whoever he goes up against. It’s time to put the newly free country to the test, and One Piece episode 1081 will deliver on a great battle!
