What Happens in One Piece Episode 1095?
Episode 1095 comes in hot, picking up right from where the last episode stopped with S-Shark going off on the Straw Hats. They do their best to fight him off, but seeing a younger version of their own Helmsman isn’t doing them any favors. S-Shark mops the floor with all of them, even guarding against Robin’s giant palm strikes. Before all is said and done he manages to throw Sanji like a dirty rag, piling him straight into the wall of the lab. Things aren’t looking good for the Straw Hats here when the focus shifts back over to Luffy’s group.
Luffy and the others are finally free of the Pacifista that was chasing them. Of course, now they’re in a junkyard full of failed creations. Or just trash from Vegapunk‘s tossed ideas, but it’s safe. They end up finding one of the greatest revelations in One Piece so far though. It’s a massive robot, rusted and mossed over, sitting dead in the junkyard. Even more shocking is when Vegapunk finally calls off the attack on the other Straw Hats. While also revealing nothing on Egghead is ‘futuristic’ like it seems. Instead, Egghead Island holds remnants of the Ancient Kingdom from 900 years ago.
Battle With S-Shark
Jimbei is already the third strongest bounty of the Straw Hats, being a former Warlord of the Sea and all. So coming up against his younger clone, spliced together with Lunarian DNA, is more than challenging for the Straw Hats. They can’t get away either, locked up in the Vegapunk labs while S-Shark goes in on them. Meanwhile, Edison and Pythagoras watch from over the cameras, gathering terabytes of data just from observing the battle. No doubt they’re looking to improve the Seraphim even more. They’re already turning him into a more dangerous weapon than he already is.
Only two other Seraphim have gotten any spotlight until now, with S-Hawk and S-Snake wreaking havoc on Amazon Lily. S-Shark seems to be on a different level though, even wreaking havoc on the Straw Hat Pirates. When another masked figure shows up at the last second, he’s able to call it off with a single word. The Seraphim listen Marines, but their command hierarchy is on a structure that will come into play later.
More Vegapunks Arrive
The masked Vegapunk with a number one isn’t the only new version of the doctor to show up in this episode. Pythagoras and Edison, two more robot-looking versions, are desperately collecting data on S-Shark in the lab. Meanwhile, Lilith is sitting back and watching the battle with glee. Shaka, the number one, notes that they can’t just trust pirates, which to be fair, is a good point. Luckily for him, the Straw Hat Pirates are much different than the usual crew.
York is the main new character introduced in this episode though, and she shows off some strange powers. Her encapsulation for Vegapunk is greed, which she majorly shows by scarfing down tons of food. She’s almost as lazy as she is greedy too, immediately going back to sleep as soon as she’s… vacated all the food. Apparently, her digestive tract functions almost the same as Luffy’s so there may be some real science behind it.
Seraphim Powers
One of the main things that the Straw Hats notice when fighting S-Shark is the strange powers. They know Jimbei well, at least enough to know what his powerset includes when he fights. So when he starts shooting laser beams it ends up taking everyone by surprise. Then his incredible speed and abilities with Fishman Karate manage to knock most of them out, even managing to capture Nami in his grip. Things start to look even more hopeless when he starts swimming through the ground, making his way through solid earth toward his foes.
The only one who recognizes it outright is Franky, thanks to his encounter with Dressrosa. S-Shark is using the Swim-Swim Fruit, used by Senor Pink of the Doflamingo Family. Franky is definitely taken off guard, especially considering the last he saw of Senor Pink was him being arrested after the Dressrosa Incident. They parted with a promise to have a drink together one day and swap life stories, seeing as they were both such hard-boiled dudes.
How Does Vegapunk Work?
The Vegapunks work in a strange way, with all of them seemingly sharing one network mentally. They’re all capable of independent thought, though it seems they control hunger and other bodily functions as one. Pythagoras coming up with tons of plans all at once. Meanwhile, Edison is recording whatever he can of the S-Shark fight. Add to that Atlas is still doing battle with the giant dragon in the middle of the island. They’re working through a LOT of energy between them. Thankfully York is able to pull them through right as things are looking dire. By inhaling as much food as the robot minions can bring her.
Apparently, York eating the massive amounts of food she does satisfies the hunger and energy needs of the other Vegaapunks. It’s got to be strange for the others to never have to eat if they don’t want to, but then York ends up being able to poop for them too. Yeah, don’t know if that detail was really necessary, but apparently that was the third time in a day that York pulls off an “Eat, poop, sleep” routine. It’s definitely going to be a strange dynamic when they all come together eventually, especially after seeing Atlas use her Digestive Punch.
Island of the Past
By far the greatest revelation about Egghead Island is that it’s not futuristic like the veneer it puts on. Instead, Vegapunk reveals to the Straw Hats there that almost everything futuristic is actually from the past. Specifically, Egghead Island is full of technology and innovations from the Ancient Kingdom. Apparently, the World Government have been set up over here for years, keeping an eye on everything. Meanwhile Vegapunk seems to be studying what’s here on the island, probably in an attempt to reverse-engineer it. The reveal of what’s being called the “iron giant” by fans is the big kicker here though. This thing is huge, and likely a major weapon of the Void Century.
The greatest question is though- if all of this incredibly advanced technology is almost a thousand years old, why is it not more widespread? There’s no reason that this kind of insane technological advancement should be confined here. Especially not after seeing just how wildly rampant slavery is in the holy city. Vegapunk has already shown off moving sidewalks in Egghead, and those are run by humans pulling tracks in Mary Geoise. If this technology exists, then why the hell is nobody using it?
Final Thoughts
If there is one thing the anime will always have over the manga, it’s showing the scale of One Piece. In a series with so many crazy proportioned characters, it only comes off so well on limited page space. Luffy and Jimbei standing in front of the iron giant fully in color though made it so much more awesome. That thing is MASSIVE and once it starts up, there are going to be some big questions.
The only bad thing this episode is how much more obvious it’s getting that Franky’s voice actor is struggling. He’s a stalwart of the industry, but aging doesn’t seem to be doing his voice any favors. Franky often sounds strained in his lines, especially considering the character shouts half the time. Hopefully, there’s someone to take over to finish out the role so he can retire and take a good rest. Although considering Oda wrote the role with him in mind, it’s pretty bittersweet.
This episode of One Piece finishes out right before a lot of major questions are answered. The next chapter promises even more developments, and a reveal flashback that’s going to bring tears. There’s someone who will come back into the story from Robin’s past, and the next episode seems to have some remade Ohara scenes. One Piece ends episode 1095 on a fantastic note, and next week is going to be even more exciting.
