Halloween is a season perfect for spooky things to happen. One Piece does not scream ‘horror’ but some spooky situations have occurred in the anime. The show has its fair share of flashing lights, roaring thunder, zombies, and half-human creatures after all. Sit tight, grab your pumpkin-shaped bowl, and continue reading to find the perfect episode to fit the eerie vibes. Disclaimer: Viewers will always have a fun time watching the anime so the author does not take responsibility if you find yourself giggling instead of screaming. But hey! From afar a laugh may sound like a scream.
Episode 5: Fear, Mysterious Power! Pirate Clown Captain Buggy!
Halloween means scary circuses with evil clowns. Well, this is just the right episode for that! Luffy and his crew land on a new island on which they come across an amusement park called Buggyland. Buggy the Clown, captain of the Clown Pirates, runs the park. (Only in One Piece will you find a clown who is a pirate). Nami helps the Clown Pirates capture Luffy. Buggy attempts to use the powerful and explosive cannonball known as the Buggyball to attack Luffy, but it ends up getting redirected, causing harm to the Clown Pirates. Nami becomes a new member of the Straw Hats that we all admire so much.
Episode 337: The Mysterious Skeleton Floating in the Fog!…
The episode is part of the Thriller Bark Arc. In this episode, Luffy and the Straw Hats discover a barrel under the sea. When they open it (Mistake Number 1. NEVER open barrels from under the sea) they get thrown into the foggy Florian Triangle. They encounter a ruined ship and when they set foot on it to investigate, they meet a spooky live skeleton. The skeleton is none other than Brook, and Luffy asks him to join his crew. This episode adds to the Halloween energy you were looking for.
Episode 339: One Phenomenon after Another!
Episode 339 is another episode that is part of the Thriller Bark Arc. The Straw Hat Pirates crew is sailing towards the Thriller Bark. As they draw closer to the moving island, the crew decides to split in half. Some of the crew, including the members Nami, Usopp, and Chopper, end up testing out the Mini Merry II. They fall into a ditch and encounter a Cerberus. The others, including Luffy, experience paranormal activities from an invisible ghost. The ‘ghost’ messes with them and even stops Sanji’s attempt to leave the ship. This episode fits the eerie vibe that the viewers are looking for in this spooky season.
Episode 341: Nami’s In Big Trouble! The Zombie Mansion…
After meeting with Hogback, Nami decides to take a shower in Hogback’s creepy castle. (Taking a shower in a creepy castle? Not her brightest moments.). The Invisible Man revealed to be one of Gecko Moria’s subordinates named Absalom, launches an attack on her. Usopp and Chopper manage to chase away Absalom. The crew comes across many other scary situations and they try to find ways to escape the castle. Meanwhile, Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates search for the missing crew. Surprise Zombies attack Nami, Usopp, and Chopper, making the episode filled with shenanigans. It should certainly be on your watch list this Halloween.
Episode 372: The Battle For Superiority Starts! – Luffy vs. Luffy
The episode begins with Zoro, Nami, and Usopp fighting against Zombified Oars. Zoro tries attacking Oars and Usopp shoots Brook’s salt into Oar’s mouth with Kuwagata. Nightmare Luffy arrives and protects Usopp and Nami from Oar’s attack. The Rolling Pirates take the unconscious Straw Hat Pirates away from the battle to a safer place. Luffy, along with his shadows, is more powerful than Oars. He starts attacking Oars. Using his Devil Fruit, the Gomu Gomu no Mi, Luffy punches Gecko Moria and uses the Gomu Gomu no Storm to propel Oars into the sky. Luffy successfully wins the fight, although the shadow leaves his body.
Although this episode is not traditionally scary or spooky, Luffy’s appearance will surely surprise you.
Episode 421: The Crewmate’s Whereabouts – The Princess And The Devil
The episode focuses on the whereabouts of Zoro and Brook from the Straw Hat Pirates after Bartholomew Kuma sent them away. Zoro lands on an island where he comes across Perona. She tries to make Zoro her new servant, however, he leaves anyway. Perona follows Zoro using her abilities. On the other side, a group of people try to summon Satan by performing a ritual. Brook lands in front of them which causes the people to think he is Satan. The episode is not only comedic but it is also the perfect episode to watch during the spooky season.
Episode 764: To My Buds! Sanji’s Farewell Note!
The episode is not a typical spooky and scary Halloween-themed episode. However, it does have a gloomy and bittersweet theme, which is also fitting for the Halloween season. Sanji is forcefully getting married to a member of the Big Mom Pirates, because of his family. He left a note for his crewmates and also threw them out of Capone Bege’s body. Caesar Clown could not attack Sanji because of his arranged marriage. Sanji agreed to go to the wedding as long as his crewmates were safe. The episode shows the challenges that arose because of the upcoming marriage. Meanwhile, the situation unfolds in front of Luffy and the crew debates about what course of action to take. They decide to rescue Sanji from the shackles of marriage.
