The Final Saga has seen a lot of changes to the One Piece world and it has barely started. It really started with the Egghead Saga, which has only just started its adaptation into the anime. But many people see the final saga really happening during the war at Wano and the explosive fallout. Luffy defeating Kaido and the fallout of the war in Wano kickstarted the Final Saga. The world changes as a result, and soon the Straw Hats arrive at Egghead. However, the futuristic island comes under attack when Vegapunk’s research dips into the Void Century. Soon old and new enemies descend on the island, and the world changes again as characters start to make their plays. Of course, this leads to several deaths at the start. Likely several more will happen as the story continues. Here are some of the major deaths that have happened in the Final Saga.
The Satellites Of Dr. Vegapunk
Dr. Vegapunk separated himself into six distinct portions called Satellites. While they each have their own wills and desires, they also exemplify one part of Vegapunk’s personality. Shaka is Good, Lilith is Evil, Edison is thinking, Pythagoras is wisdom, Atlas is violence and York is greedy. While all six of these were allies of the Straw Hats, York betrayed everyone.
York desired to become a World Noble, so she leaked information to the Five Elders. Information that Vegapunk was studying the Void Century. York also abducted the CP0 agents sent to report on the rumors and also gave the Five Elders the Mother Flame. Eventually, her actions caused the World Government to attack the island. Their orders were to kill everyone.
The Deaths Of The Satellites
As the war on Egghead raged on, York killed Shaka, S-Snake killed Pythagorus, and the rest of the satellites would be wounded during the scuffle, but would otherwise be okay.
York would eventually get outsmarted by the Straw Hats and captured. She tried to trap everyone inside an impenetrable dome. The surviving satellites and Vegapunk cracked the code and escaped the island, but the war wasn’t over yet!
King Cobra
One of the biggest events that happened at the start of the Egghead arc was that the news arrived. News that Nefertari Cobra had been killed and Nefertari Vivi had vanished. Cobra had met with the Five Elders and talked with them about various topics. These included the whereabouts of his ancestor Nefertari Lili and the meaning of the D. However, Imu, the supreme leader behind the Five Elders, showed up. He told Cobra that his ancestor was the one who had spread the Poneglyphs all over the world. He also said that D. was the name of the enemy of the World Government.
Cobra revealed that Lili’s full name was Nefertari D. Lili. This was when Imu attacked him, as well as an eavesdropping Sabo who had come to the man’s aid. After a quick battle, Cobra sacrificed himself to allow Sabo to escape. But Cobra’s death had a ton of implications for the entire story. The Nefertari family had the name D., and the audience got to see Imu’s power for the first time. Sabo is one of the only ones who has the knowledge of what transpired, making him a target.
Garp (Maybe)
Alright, with the Egghead arc being so new, there are a few deaths that might stick and might not. Everyone who reads One Piece knows that Oda loves to have fake-out deaths. Characters take a seemingly lethal amount of damage, but they still manage to come back alive. So a character who might be dead is someone who could come back later. Monkey D. Garp is one of those characters.
After the Blackbeard Pirates captured Koby, Garp marshaled a force of Marines to rescue him. They battled the Blackbeard pirates only to find themselves overwhelmed. Garp sacrificed himself to save the others. The last time we saw him in the manga, he was surrounded by the Blackbeard Pirates and heavily injured. Whether he passes here or gets captured for his bounty is anyone’s guess. But if he does die, it will mean a massive blow to the Marines!
Clapp and His Wife
Clapp was a member of the Buccaneer race and the King of the Sorbet Kingdom. Once his son Kuma was born, the entire dynasty was made slaves in Marijoa. His wife died first through unknown means, but Clapp kept on. At least until he was too loud proclaiming Nika’s greatness and got shot by a Celestial Dragon.
But the love for Nika lived on in Kuma, who would later use that love to keep Luffy safe. The man who had inherited the rubber powers of the Sun God. Kuma is an extremely interesting character, and his death is still one that stings. Especially with all the flashbacks we’ve been seeing of him. Speaking of Kuma, this next character has a connection to him as well.
Ginny
The mother of Jewelry Bonney, Ginny was a member of the Revolutionary Army and one of the commanders. Until she was captured by the Celestial Dragons. She had to marry one of them and bore them her daughter. She was then tossed aside whenever she had the incurable Sapphire Scale Disease and would die soon afterward. Kuma would adopt Jewelry Bonney and would later attempt to cure her of the disease. Dr. Vegapunk was able to cure Jewelry Bonney, but it required Kuma to join the Seven Warlords of the Sea. He also needed to become a cyborg and later the model for the World Government’s Pacifista units.
Ginny and Kuma passed on a lot of their skills to their daughter, helping her survive. We are seeing more and more of Jewelry Bonney as the story goes on. Hopefully, she can make her parents proud and prove that they did not die in vain. Especially since the Final Saga is just ramping up, and more deaths are very likely to come.
