One Piece is a show all about Devil Fruits and the various powers that those unlock. But there are other skills as well. Some characters even get by without any Devil Fruit powers whatsoever. They manage purely on their wits and martial arts prowess. There are various fighting styles in One Piece that allow for characters to hold their own against Devil Fruit users.
These martial arts are often used in combination with weapons or used all on their own. Still, all of them are pretty interesting. They can be silly, they can be serious, but all of them are dangerous in the right hands. Here are some of the best Martial Arts in One Piece.
8. Ramen Kenpo
This one was rather silly, but it did manage to keep Sanji on the back foot for a while until he pulled out his knives. Ramen Kenpo was used by the CP7 member Wanze. He could ingest the raw ingredients used to make Ramen, and then fire said ramen out of his nose. He is able to use this style, along with various kitchen weapons and roller blades, to be a formidable foe.
Sanji was able to defeat his ramen weapons and deemed Wanze unworthy of being a cook. Ramen Kenpo certainly was an interesting martial art that helped keep the Sea Train interesting.
7. Electro
The Minks are able to use their abundance of fur as a serious weapon. They harness the static electricity inside of their fur. Then they can release that energy as a static charge. This charge can be directed in combat towards an opponent. Much like Haki, it can also be transferred into the weapons that the Minks wield.
It allows for the Minks to have another tool in their arsenal while fighting against opponents. Additionally, if a Mink gets into their Sulong form, they can emit a constant stream of electro and still control it. It makes the Sulong form even more powerful.
6. Newkama Kempo
This new form of Okama Kempo sees Emporio Ivankov use his hands and head to battle his opponents. With winks and other forms of attacks, he can disorient and even knock back opponents. He can even repel projectiles just by using winking attacks. That is something that confounds everyone!
It is a very interesting form of combat that came in handy for the Emporio. He used it to great effect both during Impel Down and at Marineford. If he shows up ready for a fight in the Final Saga, it will be interesting to see how the skills have further improved!
5. Rokushiki
For a skill designed to counter Devil Fruit’s powers, look no further than Rokushiki. This style consists of six techniques that can only be used one at a time. From sky walking to the iron body, to superhuman speed, these abilities are all very powerful. It was first seen in the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs of the story, where CP9 agents all used it.
This allowed them to overcome various opponents. They could even hold their own against the Straw Hats. Some members of CP9 even got to use the various skills in combination with their Devil Fruit abilities. Which made for some very interesting fights. Other characters through the series would end up using all six skills or some variation of the set. Giving them a wide range of abilities to pick from during battle.
4. The Kung-Fu Dugongs
These tiny little creatures pack a serious punch! They have a strict code of honor and actually have some pretty decent martial arts skills. Additionally, the code they establish says that they must follow and aid the person who defeated them. One Kung-Fu Dugong even founded a pirate crew of only sea animals. He sailed to the New World and even mastered some Haki.
These creatures might not have an official fighting style to go with their name. However, they are very formidable and adorable. So they shouldn’t get counted out! If they are able to use kung fu along with some serious haki, then they might be powerful enough to win some good fights.
3. Fish-man Karate
The Fish-men Karate style got introduced as far back as the East Blue Saga. But the users of it suffered defeat quickly, and put on a poor showing. However, when true masters like Jinbe and Koala showed up, they managed to show the audience their true power. It is a style that can be used both on land and in the water. It is much stronger in the water because it is the natural fighting environment of the fish-men.
However, even on land the fish-men can use the water around them to enhance their attacks. Even a small splash of water can turn into bullets in a master’s hands. They can also increase the damage by allowing their blows to travel through the water in their opponent’s body.
2. Swordsmanship
Sometimes blades are the best weapon that a pirate has. Even in a world where guns and other ranged weapons exist, swords are still effective. There are as many swordsman techniques as there are blades. Plus, many masters of the craft have even invented their own sword attacks.
Characters like Dracule Mihawk and Roronoa Zoro constantly show why some blades and skills can get a pirate pretty far. Their styles of swordplay have allowed them to defeat several strong opponents. Plus, they have wielded some pretty powerful swords as well.
1. Haki
Haki is the natural counter to Devil Fruits, and with three types and two that can be trained, there is a lot to unpack. The ability is a skill that gives raw power to a user’s attacks and defenses. It can also let them predict an opponent’s moves. The strongest form of the power lets users even control the wills of others.
It is the reason why Red Haired Shanks was able to conquer the Grand Line. He became one of the Four Emperors with only all three types of Haki. No need for any Devil Fruits here!
