The Straw Hats meet many strange people throughout their time on the seas, but some end up fighting alongside them as friends. These eventually make up the budding Straw Hat Grand Fleet, but others are still on their own helping in the background. The best of the Straw Hat allies are never far though, and some have come through everyone else may have failed, so time to rank them!

16. The Giant Pirates
Some of the earliest allies to the Straw Hat Pirates when they enter the Grand Line, Dorry and Broggy are the former co-captains of the Giant Pirates. They’ve been in Little Garden for over a hundred years now, battling every day over a forgotten bet. Coincidentally, they rest every day around the bones of dinosaurs their original argument was over, long forgotten as they just keep going out of their honor. The Straw Hats help them bury the hatchet though, and they’re not back on Elbaph with Shanks.
Even now the Straw Hats themselves have the New Giant Pirates under their flag in the Grand Fleet. This crew is made up of former members of the Giant Pirates that have been waiting for their captains, and are led by Hajrudin. Though it does remain to be seen if the return of Dorry and Broggy changes this, Hajrudin isn’t likely to go back on his vow.
15. Eustass Kid
While he’s only an ally briefly during Sabaody and the Wano arc, Kid proves to be somewhat useful whenever he teams up with Luffy and Law. Thankfully, because when he’s on his own he gets beaten to hell and back by everyone around from Kaido to Shanks. The dude has lost an arm to an Emperor, and that qualifies as either the bravest or dumbest thing that any pirate can do. He’s lucky he makes it out alive, too.
Kid has one of the coolest Devil Fruits too, allowing him to assign magnetic properties to objects or people around him. For such a badass ability, he’s really good at having his ass beaten every chance he gets. Still, he’s a major reason for the win in Onigashima, even though Law was the one to put Big Mom in the ground by the end.
14. Fujitora
This Marine Admiral is one of the most powerful in the organization now. He’s incredibly strong, and holds the Press-Press Fruit, which gives him control over gravity. It also lets him summon meteors, which makes no real sense but causes a ton of chaos every time. There’s not really any excuse for him doing it either, since even though he’s blind he has mastery of his abilities and keen Observation Haki.
While he’s not an outspoken ally of the Straw Hats, he’s aware that they aren’t what the Marines or World Government portray them as. He’s going even further toward their side, and recently (knowingly or not) aided the Revolutionaries in freeing slaves on Marijoa. Fujitora will be an amazing ally to the Straw Hats by the time the final saga comes to a climax.
13. Kyros
The father of Rebecca and champion of Dressrosa is one of the greatest Straw Hat allies during the Dressrosan Revolution. Even as a toy soldier with one leg and rust on his limbs, Kyros fights incredibly hard to save not just his family, but his country. It’s through his planning and hard work with the Tontatta that the Straw Hat Pirates are able to throw the plans out and take Doflamingo out in their own chaotic way.
Kyros is so incredibly resilient even through everything that happens to him. After how Luffy helps them to free their country and turn everyone back into humans from toys, he owes a massive debt to the Straw Hats. It’s sure to pay off too, as Dressrosa is going to be at the pirates’ side when the big conflict comes.
12. Kin’emon
The first samurai of Wano that the Straw Hats meet as well as one of their greatest allies through the New World. Kin’emon is an incredible character, and it shows in his arc as he protects Kozuki Momonosuke like his own son. Owing his life to the Straw Hats, Kin’emon will jump at the chance to help him, knowing that it’s their strength that frees Wano from Kaido’s iron grip. He’s actually a strong swordsman too, and takes on Kaido along with the rest of Oden’s vassals.
Though he’s in Wano right now trying to rebuild after the tyranny of Orochimaru, he’s a steadfast friend of Luffy and the others. The Straw Hats give Momo a flag to fly over Wano if they’re in trouble, emblazoned with their Jolly Roger, and tell them to call on them anytime they need. Luffy takes on Wano as a semi-territory with Momo’s blessing, and Kin’emon will never let that go unrepaid.
11. Yamato
The son of Kaido is only free from his father’s tyranny after Wano is also free. Yamato knows what it’s like to be a captive, and he knows hunger just as well as the people of Wano. There’s no coincidence that he has the Devil Fruit of their guardian deity either, as he’s fighting hard to bring the country back from the destruction of his father. It’s with Luffy’s help as the liberator he’s able to fight Kaido, and he’s an essential part of why Luffy brings down the Emperor of the Sea.
Yamato is only an ally for the moment, but potentially could join the Straw Hats as a member. He has a standing invitation from Luffy, but gave it up to travel across Wano first, seeing the country as Kozuki Oden did decades ago. Yamato will no doubt be by their side again though, whether as crew or ally during battle, and be much, much stronger.
10. Galley-La
When the Water 7 arc began, Pauly was the fan favorite to join the Straw Hat Pirates as their shipwright. Then the entire Galley-La company comes out swinging during Enies Lobby as they accompany the entire crew to rescue Franky and Nico Robin. Now Iceberg, Pauly, and the other Galley-La shipwrights believe in the Straw Hats just like Iceberg’s mentor Tom did for Gold Roger long ago. They know the young pirates are the ones fighting for good right now throughout the Grand Line, and they can see the coming storm.
By extension, this brings in the Franky Family, who go along with them to Enies Lobby. They all make a formidable number, and they would have the Straw Hats’ backs at Luffy’s request. Galley-La and the Franky Family may actually have a place making ships for the Straw Hat Fleet in the future.
9. Cavendish
Captain of the Beautiful Pirates, Cavendish is one of the contestants from Dressrosa who distinguishes himself during the Revolution fight. He’s incredibly strong thanks to the demon Hakuba that takes over when he sleeps, making him incredibly fast. Cavendish is a brave fighter, chivalrous to the end, and is going to make a major ally when the final battle comes around. He’s one of the first to propose the idea of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet as well, bringing out the traditional sake cups for the ritual.
Even more, Cavendish is actually a prince from a distant kingdom. He’s only a pirate thanks to his desire to keep his citizens safe from Hakuba, who began a murder spree upon first emerging. A noble prince if there ever was one, he’s an even nobler member of the Straw Hat Grand Gleet.
8. Sai
The newest leader of the Happosui Imperial Navy and proud member of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. Sai is incredibly strong for a regular human, one of the few minor characters with Conqueror Haki. He’s an absolutely loyal ally to Luffy as well after the show of power in Dressrosa where the Straw Hats free everyone. It’s even better because he inherits the entire Happosui Navy from his father, also in Luffy’s debt.
Sai is a huge ally, and comes with hundreds of ships that still don’t even compare to some in the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. He also brings Baby Five back into the story, this time in a more stable fashion though. Even with his status in the Reverie, Sai is ready to risk it all to defend Princess Shirahoshi and the others in Luffy’s name and as a decent human.
7. Ace
Of course he’ll be an ally to the Straw Hats, even in death, as his will lives on through Luffy. Ace’s burning flame will never die, especially when it comes to protecting his brothers. He fights alongside the Straw Hats briefly to escape Dressrosa, and helps to bring Luffy out of the Marineford War alive. Ace is one of the strongest believers in Luffy’s dream, even if he does make fun of it from time to time.
Ace does everything he can to protect Luffy, even to the point of dying for him. Though he may be gone, he’s still able to protect his brother through Sabo, who holds his Flame-Flame Fruit.
6. Bartolomeo
Definitely the most active member of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet on and off-screen. Bartolomeo is the number one fan of Luffy, being a complete idiot when it comes to meeting his idol in Dressrosa. He jumps at the chance to join their Fleet, being one of the first to offer the sake cups and even take the Straw Hats to Zou after Dressrosa. Of course, he has them sign everything he can in the meantime, especially the wanted posters he’s collected for all of them throughout the years.
Barto is actually going around now under the Straw Hat Grand Fleet banner and causing chaos for other Emperors. He hasn’t had the fortune of running across Buggy yet, but many of the Red Hair Pirate flags have been taken down across the New World and replaced with Straw Hats.
5. Sabo
Even without Ace, Luffy has a brother to watch over him throughout his journey in the New World. Sabo has the will of fire just like his older brother, and he’s determined to not let Luffy end up like Ace, dying while he was unaware. It’s now his mission to become a liberator to the people even more than before, now with his own personal stakes in the Revolutionary Army.
Sabo and Luffy are coming close to another reunion, likely more chaotic than the last. Even without the backing of the Revolutionaries though, he would be there for Luffy at a moment’s notice. Even now he wants to get to him as soon as possible, as he has a very important message to deliver from Nefertari Cobra, former King of Arabasta.
4. Bartholomew Kuma
The most low-key ally of the Straw Hat Pirates to this day, and they don’t even know the whole truth yet. Kuma has been working behind the scenes his entire life, leading the Straw Hats where they need to go and making sure they survive. It was only his intervention in the Sabaody Archipelago that saved their lives from becoming Navy prisoners, or corpses in the sea.
Even now he seems to be racing toward their rescue at Egghead Island, though his daughter is also there. He’s become a beautifully layered character as his story is slowly peeled back, and the finale of it is going to be magnificent. Kuma is going to ensure the Straw Hats win, and make the sacrifices he’s seen along the way be worth something.
3. Trafalgar D Water Law
Law has been one of the most prominent allies of the Straw Hats in the New World, almost like a parallel to Vivi. He sails with them from Punk Hazard, and Luffy helps Law to take down Donquixote Doflamingo. In doing that, he earns Law’s respect and gratitude, which leads to eventually finishing out their alliance through the Raid on Onigashima. Although they part ways after that as adversaries in the search for the One Piece, Luffy will always help his friends in need.
Law is going to be in major need right now too, as he was last seen taken down by Blackbeard. Their choice of destination after Wano turns into a disaster, and the fate of the entire crew is still unknown as of now. There’s no telling how Law will come back into play, but Luffy will probably have hell to pay for anyone who hurts his friends.
2. Nefertari Vivi
Surviving member of the Nefertari family and Princess of Arabasta, Vivi is one of the closest allies to the Straw Hats ever. She sails with them through their early journey, and they help to free her country from the clutches of a Warlord that would otherwise kill millions. Vivi owes the Straw Hats everything for what they’ve done, and she’s already a member of the crew in all but name as she has a standing invite to join.
Her time might be near, too. The recent events of the Reverie ensure that she’s going to need Luffy’s help, and there are a lot of pieces moving to get them together. It’s unlikely that she’s going to be away from Luffy and the others long, as their newfound similarities are lining up more and more every single day.
1. Bon Clay
The number one ride-or-die ally for the Straw Hat Pirates is no other than Mr. 2 Bon Clay. He’s in it for anything, and will absolutely help Luffy at even the slightest hint that he may need it. Bon Clay may have started out as an antagonist with Baroque Works, but quickly becomes a great friend through his appreciation of the Straw Hats’ help. He still fights Sanji, but they’re good friends even after all this time because of what Bon does for Luffy. Not only does he save the Straw Hats from Hina post-Arabasta, but he also keeps Luffy alive in Marineford.
Bon Clay will be the constant for the Straw Hats, there to back them up until his dying breath. Now even more so than ever since Luffy is an Emperor, and he believes that the young Straw Hat boy can change the world. The ultimate ally to the Straw Hats, Bon Clay is one that would be welcome on the crew any time, should he choose to.
Of course, the crew is always gaining allies throughout their travels of the Grand Line. Currently, they’re in a big situation on Egghead Island helping Dr. Vegapunk, but who knows what could happen next. These might be the best allies of the Straw Hats now, but things are constantly changing in the turmoil of the New World!
