Mr. 3 has been a subject of previous One Piece segments, so it’s time to address the devil fruit that gives him this notoriety: The Doru Doru no Mi.
We’ve covered a good handful of Devil Fruits so far and for very good reason. Before Haki exploded, this was the main way to crush the enemy. Or, if you’ve been paying attention, really do anything else to the opponent that defies all natural laws. Also, this Paramecia-type fruit has left an indelible mark on the anime and manga. With that, what exactly is One Piece’s Doru Doru no Mi? Why would it terrify the girl managing the local candle kiosk giving everyone the stink eye for not purchasing her handmade garbage? Let’s dive in. On second thought, it’d be best to stay away. One might get stuck.
What Does The Doru Doru no Mi Do?
The Doru Doru or “Wax-Wax” Devil Fruit grants its user the ability to create and manipulate wax at will. Usually, making them a formidable and versatile force in battles and everyday situations. The Doru Doru no Mi has played a significant role in the series. With gusto, this is shown during the Alabasta and Enies Lobby arcs. We’ll address that shortly, but let’s talk aesthetics first.
What Does The Wax-Wax Fruit Look Like?
The Doru Doru no Mi, like all Devil Fruits, has a distinct appearance. It typically resembles a round fruit with a waxy, yellowish-green skin and a stem on top. It’s honestly gross. One cannot understand why half of this stuff is in the stomachs of pirates. Not to mention Marines. Anyway, moving on.
The Fruit’s Purpose
As stated, the primary ability granted by the Doru Doru no Mi is the power to create wax from the user’s body. Also, this wax is on exhibit in various forms and shapes, limited only by the user’s imagination and creativity. Mr. 3 often utilized this ability to craft a variety of weapons, tools, and defensive structures, making him a versatile adversary in battle.
“Loan Shark” Galdino, A.K.A. Mr. 3
Imagine if Tony Soprano just started shooting thick wax all over his rivals. Never mind, maybe don’t. Oh boy! This probably shouldn’t be in the live-action either. Galdino possesses an unwavering self-confidence and makes no effort to conceal it. He regards himself as a strategic genius, relying on his intellect and a complete absence of moral boundaries to execute his schemes.
Before the eventual downfall of Baroque Works, Mr. 3 held a prominent position within the criminal organization’s hierarchy. Presumably overseeing a substantial cadre of subordinates, some of whom were likely Billions-ranked agents. Wax gets you far in this business apparently.
How The Doru Doru no Mi is Used in Combat
One of the most notable offensive applications of the Doru Doru no Mi is the creation of wax sculptures. They are used to immobilize and trap opponents. These sculptures could take on any form, from giant hands to animals, and they served as effective tools for capturing or incapacitating opponents. Additionally, the user can create weapons made of wax, such as swords or maces. They are surprisingly durable in combat. These wax weapons can be molded and reshaped at will, allowing for creative and strategic attacks.
It’s also an epic support ability, giving a handful of Mr. 3’s allies a leg up in combat. He once helped Luffy by enhancing his strength with wax structures. This wax art is probably best exemplified when he created “Candle Champion”. This Iron Man wax suit is pretty incredible.
Defense Capabilities
The Doru Doru no Mi’s defensive capabilities are equally impressive. The user can create wax barriers and shields to protect themselves and their allies from incoming attacks. These barriers can be as simple as a wall of wax or as intricate as a wax dome, providing a solid defense against both physical and energy-based assaults.
As stated above, Mr. 3 also displayed the ability to create wax armor, enhancing his own durability in battle. This armor is used to cover specific body parts or provide full-body protection, making it difficult for opponents to land damaging blows.
Use of The Doru Doru no Mi in One Piece
The Doru Doru no Mi has played a significant role in the One Piece series, particularly during the Alabasta Saga and the Enies Lobby Arc. Mr. 3’s creative use of wax sculptures, traps, and disguises made him a formidable adversary, and his abilities posed unique challenges for the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies. During the Alabasta Saga, Mr. 3’s wax-based deception and manipulation were central to Baroque Works’ plan to overthrow the Alabasta Kingdom. His wax sculptures are often in use to sow chaos and confusion in the kingdom.
Later, after his change in character Mr. 3’s abilities became instrumental when he crafted a key. His wax keys were used to unlock the Sea Train’s handcuffs, allowing his allies to fight on.
The Weaknesses of the Wax-Wax Fruit
Like all Devil Fruit users, Galdino is vulnerable to drowning. If he were submerged in water or any liquid substance that reaches a certain depth, he would lose his ability to use his powers and become helpless. Plus, wax is highly susceptible to heat, and extreme temperatures can melt it. This weakness can be a soft spot for opponents who have fire-based abilities or access to intense heat sources.
Speed is also a key concern. The creation and manipulation of wax may not be as fast as other Devil Fruit abilities, making it less effective in high-speed combat situations. Finally, The user’s physical condition and stamina play a role in their ability to produce wax. Overexertion can lead to exhaustion, limiting the user’s capacity to create large structures or maintain defenses for extended periods.
An Odd Yet Useful Tool
This has been a fun one. Galdino demonstrated the full potential of this Devil Fruit through creative wax sculptures, weapons, and defensive structures. While the Doru Doru no Mi has its limitations, it has played a significant role in various story arcs of One Piece. Like most others, it has added depth and intrigue to the world of Devil Fruits in the series.
