One Piece fans love to create fan theories while they wait for the manga and anime to catch up. Some of these fan theories can be half-right or at least on the right track. Others are often so ridiculous that they are often dismissed outright. Finally, some are simply designed to answer long questions or answer things that aren’t there. For as much as Oda tries to bring in all sorts of information and tie up plot threads, some fan theories simply try to answer unanswered questions. One of these theories is the Four Gods One Piece Theory. This is a theory that has a bit of context behind it, and it will be very interesting to analyze. So let’s get to it! Here’s all you need to know about the Four Gods theory!
Luffy’s Devil Fruit Awakening
During the battle with Kaidou, Luffy’s Devil Fruit awakened. It was originally thought to be the Gomu Gomu no Mi (Gum-Gum Fruit). However, during the awakening it was found to be the Hito Hito no mi, Model: Nika. It enhances the user’s already powerful rubber-based abilities. The new state also allows them to manipulate the environment around them to become rubber too.
It also changes Luffy into the Warrior of Liberation capable of bringing joy and freedom to all. The fruit is also connected to the ancient Sun God Nika. Nika was a mythical warrior from the ancient times, and the Hito Hito no mi, Model: Nika was covered up by the World Government. He was said to be someone who freed the oppressed and brought joy and hope to all no matter what.
The Gods Of One Piece
In the Skypiea arc, four Gods were mentioned when a woman was to be sacrificed on the isle of Jaya. They were the God of the Sun, God of the Forest, God of the Rain, and God of the Earth. Since Nika was revealed to be a Sun God, many fans wonder what the others are. Is there a God of the Forest, God of the Rain, or the God of the Earth? They might have unawakened Devil Fruits too.
These characters could all be pretty powerful in their own right, but with god-like awakened Devil Fruits… they could be very dangerous. Many fans are already trying to figure out who might hold the other fruits and how they might awaken.
Who Are The Other Gods?
Many people point towards different characters as candidates for Godhood. For example, many fans believe that the Gura-Gura no mi (Quake-Quake Fruit) is the Devil Fruit related to Earth. After all, it is considered to be one of the most powerful Devil Fruits in existence and could have destroyed the entire world. So Blackbeard could be the God of Earth.
Others point to Monkey D. Dragon. While we don’t know anything about his powers, many fans have noticed his connection to wind. The rain and wind always seem to pick up whenever he is around. Still, others look towards Imu and their unknown powers because they are surely hiding something. It is all just speculation at this point, but it is very interesting to consider.
Holes In The Theory
Every single One Piece fan theory has some holes, and this one is no exception. There are a few unanswered questions that make the Four Gods theory questionable at best. For example, the World Government knew about Nika’s Devil Fruit and went to great lengths to keep it hidden. Have they gone to similar lengths to keep the other Devil Fruits hidden? Could that be a plot point that keeps the other Gods locked up?
Additionally, we don’t really know all the circumstances for awakening a godlike Devil Fruit. However, some of these potential characters are very powerful. It seems odd that characters like Monkey D Dragon, Whitebeard, and Blackbeard haven’t been able to awaken their Devil Fruits while Luffy was able to. You could argue ignorance about the existence of these Devil Fruits, but even then, it’s fishy.
The Shandians Might Not Be The Best Source Of Information
Much like in the real world, we need to check our sources carefully. The story of the Gods of Skypiea comes to us from Wyper. Who is having a flashback to the story of his ancestor Kalgara and his friend Mont Blanc Noland. It is Noland who goes to Jaya and finds the people ready to sacrifice the woman to the four Gods.
But the ancient Shandians, like many primitive real world tribes, likely had beliefs that simply were not true. Many tribes in the real world would assign meaning to a lot of things that simply weren’t true. The ancient Shandians could have done the same thing. They were smart enough to want to defend the poneglyphs, but they thought that a local giant snake was the Sun God. This means that they might not have the right idea about who the other Gods are.
The Other Gods Might Have Mistaken Identities As Well
Sure the Shandians did know enough about the Sun God, but they never knew about Nika. And Nika, according to the legends, wasn’t a God. He might have been a mythical figure, but he wasn’t a God. So all the deities that the Shandians worshiped might have just been creatures or circumstances around them as well. They might have been worthwhile for the Shandians. However, they probably aren’t connected to events in the wider world.
Again, all of this is speculation and fan theory. We don’t know if there are any other Devil Fruits capable of awakening into Godlike powers. But we have seen several awakened Devil Fruits before. So who knows? There could be other powerful Devil Fruits out there. Fruits that very powerful characters have control over. If those awaken then there could be some very interesting encounters to be had. Especially with the amount of power that those awakened Devil Fruits can bring to the Final Saga!
