An Organization led by Monkey D. Dragon, the Revolutionary Army is the only force in the world that opposes the World Government. They target the World Nobles of Mary Geiose, who benefit directly from the corruption carried out by the World Government. The Army’s main efforts are focused on releasing individual islands’ governments from the shackles of the World Government. They are gathering allies to prepare for war against the World Government by igniting the flame of rebellion across the world. They would also use uprisings on different islands to their advantage and gain weapons, allies or information from these islands.
Confused? Don’t worry; we got you! Simply put, Luffy’s dad is good and wants to help people. Luffy’s dad assembles a team, and they set sail (quite literally) to fight the big bad guys (World Government). Voila!
Since when did the Revolutionary Army exist?
Right after the infamous Ohara massacre, the Revolutionary Army formed. The World Government killed the scholars of Ohara because of their research on the Poneglyphs. The founders of the Army are Dragon, Bartholomew Kuma, and Emporio Ivankov. Monkey D. Dragon, who is also Luffy’s father, leads the Army as the supreme commander! Dragon’s only accomplishment is not being a dad; he is also a formidable warrior. He earned the title, “World’s Worst Criminal” as he posed a prominent threat to the World Government.
The Revolutionary Army based itself on the island of Baltigo. After a battle with the Blackbeard Pirates, the base relocated to Momoiro Island. The Revolutionary Army funds itself by raiding the Marines or by receiving funding from the islands under their rule. Another goal is stockpiling weaponry in order to build the strength of their army. The Revolutionary Army trains young children into adulthood.
The Revolutionary Army’s Role
In addition to liberating islands, the Revolutionary Army monitored the underworld activity performed by the Donquixote family. They did this to obtain weapons traded by Donquixote Doflamingo. Furthermore, they closely watched the family to rescue their comrades who had become enslaved and treated them as toys. After the arrest of Doflamingo, the Army seized all the weapons manufactured in Dressrosa.
The Commanders of the Revolutionary Army do not aim to save the citizens directly. Instead, they empower the people to fight against the threat they face. For example, the commanders boosted the morale and strength of the citizens of the Lulusia Kingdom. They used Bolo Betty’s Devil Fruit abilities and they also stole the pirates’ weapons and as a result, incapacitated them.
These actions come with their consequences such as members Emporio Ivankov and Imporio’s imprisonment in Level 5 of the Impel Down, a maximum-security prison or in other words: a glorified torture chamber.
The Revolutionary Army’s Impact on Tequila Wolf
The Tequila Wolf is a massive construction site, with slaves as the workforce. The ‘workforce’ is constructing a bridge at the demand of the World Nobles. The Revolutionary Army liberated Tequila Wolf. They freed the slaves, including Nico Robin, a survivor of the Ohara massacre. They searched for her for ten years and finally found her in Tequila Wolf. Nico Robin posed a threat to the World Government. The Army called her the ‘Light of the Revolution’ and asked her to join their team. She declined and returned to the Straw Hat Pirates.
Notable people in the Revolutionary Army
The Revolutionary Army’s leader is Monkey D. Dragon. However, before this, Dragon led the group of ‘Freedom Fighters’. What makes the Revolutionary Army significant is the impact it has. In comparison, the Freedom Fighters, though not as massive, went unrecognized as a threat by the World Government. Before the Revolutionary Army formed, Dragon harbored ambitions to overthrow the World Nobles and create a world without oppression. He had the vision but not the means to execute it.
Next, is the Chief of Staff, also known as the ‘Flame Emperor’. Sabo holds the rank of No. 2 in the Revolutionary Army. A Blackbeard Pirate known as Burgess, snuck onto a Revolutionary Army ship. He leaked the location of the base, in Baltigo, of the Revolutionary Army to the Blackbeard Pirates In this battle Sabo defeated Burgess. Giving him the beating he deserved. The Army then changed their base location from Baltigo to Momoiro Island. The Blackbeard Pirates’ main aim was to acquire the stolen weaponry that originally belonged to the Donquixote Pirates.
Army Commanders
Karasu along with Betty, Morley, and Lindbergh went to the Kingdom of Lulusia. The commander of the ‘North Army’ and his team witnessed panic in the Lulusia Kingdom. This happens on their way back to Momoiro Island. The Peachbeard Pirates attacked the Kingdom and Karasu and his team easily defeated the enemies. The pirates were left to the citizens to turn up for the captain’s bounty. Betty informs the citizens that they can contact them if the citizens require the assistance of the Revolutionary Army and give them her contact information. The citizens and the Army were able to defeat the pirates by using Betty’s Devil Fruit.
Ships of The Revolution
Wind Granma is the ship used by Monkey D. Dragon. The ship’s theme is dragon and the figurehead is a literal dragon, with a small dragon tail. Dragon used the ship for ten years and used it to rescue citizens from the Grey Terminal. After the Summit War of Marineford, it was seen out of the headquarters at Baltigo.
The Revolutionary Army is a dangerous force in the eyes of the World Government for the disruption and disturbance they’ve caused in just a few years after forming. This is no small feat as they’re up against a centuries-old organization. The Army consists of people with good morality and overall nice personalities. This clearly denies the propaganda spread by the World Government which labels them as criminals. An interesting thing about One Piece is the lessons we learn from the anime! There’s a lot more in store for the Revolutionary Army. One of the main things to look forward to is the war that they are tirelessly preparing for.
