Of the three types of Devil Fruits in existence, Logia are some of the most powerful. The Logia Devil Fruits give users abilities of elements or substances, allowing them to change their body composition at will. Some can even produce that element, or control it if it’s naturally occurring around them. These Logia Fruits are the ones above all others though, the strongest of the bunch in One Piece!
Warning that this article does contain spoilers for One Piece through chapter 1091 of the manga. Every chapter is available online through MangaPlus and Viz.
13. Swamp Swamp Fruit
- Eaten by: Caribou
With any other user, the Swamp-Swamp Fruit could be legitimately powerful. Caribou is unfortunately the worst though, and uses it to be a creep. This Fruit lets the eater turn into a swampy, muddy substance that can engulf others. The power doesn’t seem like much for anything besides suffocation, but when Caribou uses it to capture mermaids it gets worse. The creep uses his powers to kidnap helpless mermaids and others that he sells as slaves, which puts him squarely in the category of One Piece’s worst.
That said, the Swamp-Swamp Fruit does have an ability much like Marshall D Teach’’s Dark-Dark Fruit. When Caribou absorbs anything with his power, he can store them away in a basically infinite void only accessible to him. Mermaids are able to survive it fine, but it’s unknown if humans are able to.
12. Snow Snow Fruit
- Eaten by: Monet
Monet’s Snow-Snow Fruit is a strange one, as the character never necessarily uses it for snow, but makes wings out of the snow instead. However, her powers are strong, especially when she was traversing the frozen wastes of Punk Hazard. She’s able to change her body to create both frozen weapons and different appendages on her body like the wings and talons she uses against Law. Unfortunately, since Monet dies at the end of Punk Hazard, nobody gets to see the full power of this Fruit yet.
11. Woods Woods Fruit
- Eaten by: Aramaki
Admiral Aramaki of the Marines only got a recent chance to show off the Woods-Woods Fruit at the end of the Wano arc. His ability to turn into wood, from a full tree to just controlling the growth around him, is dangerous even for the combined Wano forces. Sure he doesn’t go up against Luffy and the Straw Hats, but Yamato, Momo, and the other samurai make sure he doesn’t stick around in Wano for very long. Aramaki is strong, but his Devil Fruit has the one glaring weakness – Fire.
Still, Aramaki is still a big player in the story and no doubt has more fights in him. He did have a really bad number up in Marijoa during Sabo’s raid too, but obviously in the Flame-Flame Fruit vs. Woods-Woods Fruit, there’s going to be a clear winner. Soon there may be a more powerful Aramaki to face though, and he could be much more dangerous.
10. Soot Soot Fruit
- Eaten by: Karasu
Karasu’s Devil Fruit hasn’t been seen too much outside of the occasional side panel during Revolutionary missions. Even with limited screentime though, the Soot-Soot Fruit has set itself apart for being uniquely cool. Whereas many would use a Devil Fruit that turns them into ash and soot to whirl around on the wind and bury enemies, Karasu uses it to become a raven of death. He wears a long beak mask, almost like a plague doctor, and uses the soot to give himself dark, terrifying wings.
There’s a reason Karasu is one of the heads of the Revolutionary Army. The Soot-Soot Fruit isn’t just for turning him into a terrifying raven, but he has small ravens made of soot that he uses for attacks and recon. It’s brilliant use of a somewhat basic Devil Fruit, and proves that Logia powers are more than just the substance they make.
9. Smoke Smoke Fruit
- Eaten by: Smoker
Smoker needs some kind of moment in the final saga to show some real power. His Smoke-Smoke Fruit was the first introduction to Logia Fruit powers in the world of One Piece, all the way back to Loguetown. The power gives him all the properties of smoke, able to use it to fly above enemies or shroud his presence in smoke clouds. He’s an absolute menace to the Straw Hats, unaware of Haki at the time and unable to fight him, running away instead.
Unfortunately, Smoker hasn’t gotten much attention in the recent story, with his last appearance at Punk Hazard seeing him have his ass beat. Smoker needs a good upgrade, and so far only Paramecia and Zoan Devil Fruits have been shown in One Piece. If any Logia user deserves a good return with a strong Awakening, Smoker is the one.
8. Gas Gas Fruit
- Eaten by: Caesar Clown
The only Devil Fruit that could work with the vile Caesar Clown, the Gas-Gas Fruit allows users to turn into… gas! It’s not limited to any kind of gas either, as the user can change the gas composition at will. Caesar uses it to poison people more often than not, but hasn’t been averse to using it for putting people to sleep or creating painful situations. This is how Caesar tests a lot of his new combinations too, which makes him as much of a living biological weapon as any. He’s not above using it on even innocent people, and the only one to survive his gas after a direct hit is Luffy. That’s only thanks to his massive resistance from Magellan too, so who knows what someone more competent than Caesar could do.
7. Sand Sand Fruit
- Eaten by: Sir Crocodile
The power of Sir Crocodile, the Sand-Sand Fruit earns him the Warlord of the Sea title and makes him the perfect dictator for Alabasta. The Sand-Sand Fruit allows control over, of course, sand. The user can morph their body too, flying away in the wind as a sandstorm or even creating quicksand beneath them. Crocodile chooses Alabasta for this strategic reason, using the desert ecosystem to enhance his powers. It’s an especially deadly combination since he can use Sables to trap foes before poisoning them with his hook. Crocodile is an absolute menace in any environment, even showing his abilities off at sea when he finds Buggy in trouble.
Even with the incredible power it gives him, Crocodile has a weakness to water even worse than other Devil Fruit users. While others may just sink into the ocean, water actively obstructs Crocodile’s powers. He’s able to completely dry out his opponents, usually avoiding this issue, but Luffy of course exploits it during their battle. Crocodile shows some growth during the Marineford War and after though, so odds are the power is much stronger now.
6. Chilly Chilly Fruit
- Eaten by: Kuzan
Kuzan’s Chilly-Chilly Fruit is terrifying, especially when seeing the power he has over it. From freezing Nico Robin solid when he debuts during Long Ring Long Land to his Ice Age ability in Marineford, Kuzan isn’t to be messed with. Even after freezing the entirety of Marineford Bay with his Ice Age attack, Kuzan went further when facing Akainu on Punk Hazard. Their battle scars the entire island, leaving half a volcanic wasteland while the other is frozen tundra. It’s a testament to both of their powers that it caused a permanent change to the island, with the magma still flowing on one side, and snow falling on the other.
Kuzan hasn’t had much time onscreen since the time skip though, and even recently when he faces off with Garp they go at it without powers. It’s just bare knuckles between teacher and apprentice, and Kuzan backs it up. His Devil Fruit is just an enhancement to his raw power, and the Chilly-Chilly Fruit serves as a tool to get people in place for his massive strength.
5. Flame Flame Fruit
- Eaten by: Ace, then Sabo
Ace is the first holder of the Flame-Flame Fruit fans of One Piece meet. Luffy’s older brother uses his powers to become flames, increasing his speed and burning any foes he comes up against. Ace is just an overall badass with the Fruit by the time he shows up in the story, and is only taken by Blackbeard thanks to his surprise at the Dark-Dark Fruit powers. His Fire Fist move is a signature, and brings him infamy across the Grand Line thanks to his power and standing in Whitebeard’s crew.
After Ace’s death, Sabo takes on the Flame-Flame Fruit after winning it in Dressrosa. Sabo uses his brother’s signature move as a tribute to him, but otherwise incorporates his new powers into his Dragon Claw style. Sabo learns the Flame-Flame Fruit quickly too, and not long after the Reverie incident earns the name Flame Emperor.
4. Mag Mag Fruit
- Eaten by: Akainu
The Mag-Mag Fruit lets Akainu become a molten man capable of melting anyone nearby. His Devil Fruit makes such extreme heat he’s able to burn hotter than Ace’s flames, which leads to him killing the young pirate. Akainu, despite his overall presence in the story as an antagonist and new Fleet Commander of the Navy, doesn’t have much fighting on screen. His battle with Kuzan at Punk Hazard is legendary, as it got him his promotion, but otherwise, his parts in Marineford were mostly bringing down giant magma meteors and some big punches.
It is good to note that the Mag-Mag Fruit gives Akainu a surprising speed boost, allowing him to flow freely in magma form. He’s able to navigate the battlefield at Marineford extremely easily like this, and catches up with Ace in no time. The massive heat is his greatest power though, and his magma structures were just one of the contributors to Marineford’s massive casualty rate.
3. Rumble Rumble Fruit
- Eaten by: Eneru
Eneru seems impossible to beat initially, but the Straw Hats get lucky since Luffy is made of natural insulation. It’s brilliant storytelling on Eiichiro Oda’s part, but imagine how powerful Eneru must be now after all this time on the moon. His Rumble-Rumble Fruit allows him to turn into lightning, creating massive zaps and bolts instantly in addition to making him into living electricity. It’s fearsome, and instills him as the dictator of Skypiea with almost no resistance thanks to how powerful it is.
The thing is though, Eneru hasn’t been seen since his cover story run where he goes to the moon. That was during the Water 7 arc, before the time skip, so how strong is he now? Eneru already has massive mastery of Observation Haki, so the combination of his Rumble-Rumble Fruit and advanced Observation is insane to consider. He could come back as one of the most powerful characters in One Piece if Oda chooses to.
2. Glint Glint Fruit
- Eaten by: Kizaru
There’s a very, very close race for this first spot on the list, and it comes down to a literal battle of dark versus light. With that though, the Glint-Glint Fruit used by Kizaru comes in second. It’s not weak by any means, quite the opposite, but it just doesn’t have the versatility of the Dark-Dark Fruit. Kizaru’s abilities allow him to turn into light, instantly blinking across distances at lightspeed while firing beams of pure light. This is the power that originally lead to the Straw Hats splitting up at Sabaody Archipelago, and the manga is about to repeat the situation at Egghead Island.
Kizaru is very capable with the powers despite obtaining them at an older age. He first eats the Fruit with Vegapunk and Sentomaru, and perfected his beaming abilities with the scientists. He could very well be Fleet Admiral if he wants to be, but Kizaru instead views himself as another cog in the machine, meant to further others’ interests. His Glint-Glint Fruit is about to get a major showcase in the next few chapters, as Luffy just made a direct challenge to the Admiral!
1. Dark Dark Fruit
- Eaten by: Marshall D Teach (Blackbeard)
Teach takes the top spot with his Dark-Dark Fruit thanks to just how powerful he’s shown it to be. With this Logia Fruit Teach is able to become darkness itself, engulfing everything around him in the abyss. It’s devastating, and his darkness can even hold people like a prison in some infinite void. He’s able to lock Ace up like this to bring him into the Navy, and is even willing to go toe to toe for Ace’s Fruit against the combined Marines and Whitebeard Pirates. Until Shanks steps in of course, because even Teach isn’t insane enough to take on Shanks while surrounded by that many people who would back him.
The Dark-Dark Fruit gives more interesting powers than just creating the abyss and storage though, as Teach can use it to become darkness and move through shadows. It’s not known if he has some infinite strange space like Blueno has for his doors or Caribou for his swamps, but being stuck inside Teach sounds terrible. Then combining it with the Paramecia-type Tremor-Tremor Fruit just gives Teach an edge that nobody else in One Piece has.
There are probably a lot more Logia-type Devil Fruits to come in the final saga of One Piece. Oda likes popping new Devil Fruits into every arc, so hopefully with the recent love shown to Paramecia and Zoan, it’s time for Logia to shine. If that happens, check back here for an updated list of the strongest Logia Devil Fruits in One Piece!
