One of the strongest Logia Fruits in One Piece, and an incredibly strong Devil Fruit overall, the Magma-Magma Fruit is overpowered as hell. Akainu is able to turn into molten lava at any time, turning his body into flowing magma to overtake his foes. This isn’t the only thing he can do though, and the Magma-Magma Fruit is much more than molten lava.

What is the Magma-Magma Fruit?
A Logia Type that turns the user into flowing magma, the Magma-Magma Fruit is one of the strongest Logias around. Its lava is hotter than fire, able to burn through anything he chooses. Akainu, the Fleet Admiral, uses this Devil Fruit to deal out absolute justice wherever he deems it necessary. Unfortunately for most, that means a lot of the time when people are innocent, and often they’re executed with extreme prejudice.
While the typical Logia abilities let the user turn into a living flow of molten rock, Akainu has also gained the ability to rain down hellfire. Massive orbs of lava and rock come raining from the skies, much like Fujitora does but with more burn damage. Akainu uses this with abandon, sending meteors of flame down wherever he pleases while carving the earth around him into volcanic waste.
Akainu
The man himself is one hell of a fighter, but not the most forgiving when it comes to the slightest of offenses. He won’t hesitate to bomb a ship of innocent refugees into dust if he believes it necessary, This is what ends up killing all on Ohara except Nico Robin, and that’s just him exercising his power as an Admiral. As one of the three Admirals during the Marineford War, Akainu is one of the worst around when it comes to how he handles situations. Everything always ends in violence, no matter what.
After gaining the Fleet Admiral position, he’s even more unforgiving. There’s a lot of goings-on in the New World after he takes over, and it’s pushing things toward the brink of another war. Akainu’s plate just keeps piling higher too, because Straw Hat Luffy has called down one of the Gorosei on him recently. However, Akainu seems to be questioning the Gorosei as of lately, which is a major change for the bringer of absolute justice.
The Marineford War
When they need to draw out Whitebeard, the Marines make a deal with Marshall D Teach in exchange for Ace. Akainu goes a step further though, sowing trickery among the Whitebeard Pirates that makes Squard attack his captain. The battle is chaos, and the Magma-Magma Fruit does an insane amount of damage to both Whitebeard and the island as a whole. He rains down massive magma meteors, scarring the land forever. Thanks to the part he and Aokiji play with their Devil Fruits, Marineford is no longer usable as a base for the Marines.
The incredible part of Akainu taking Fleet Admiral is that Sengoku let it happen after Marineford. He has tons of regrets about the war, seeing the Magma-Magma Fruit damage and how it was hot enough to punch an entire hole through Ace. Doubtless, he considers Akainu far too bloodthirsty, especially after seeing how he almost kills Koby. His power still earns him the vote of the Gorosei though, and he fights Kuzan for the title.
Magma vs. Ice
When the position of Fleet Admiral comes up for grabs, two people are immediately up for the job. Kuzan and Akainu both want to lead the Marines, but only one of them can command the entire Fleet. There’s no way fire and ice will mix, and the two are set to face each other down for the title of Fleet Admiral on the abandoned island of Punk Hazard.
The Magma-Magma Fruit puts lava up against the Chilly-Chilly Fruit’s ice, and it results in a disastrous outcome for the island of Punk Hazard. Though it was already in ruins after the destruction by Caesar Clown’s biological weapons. Now, half the island is a hell of lava, new volcanos erupting all around. Meanwhile, the other half is a frozen wasteland, with a near-perfect split down the middle. The fight ends, and Akainu is declared the new Fleet Admiral of the Marines.
Fleet Admiral Akainu
As the Fleet Admiral, Akainu is one of the harshest in charge ever. Even Kong, the Fleet Admiral before Sengoku, thinks he’s a little too hotheaded for the job. Akainu gets the job still though, and he’s one of the most brutal fleet commanders to come into the Marines in a long time. He wastes no time instituting a draft, and must obey him purely for the strength of his incredible Devil Fruit. His Magma-Magma Fruit holds up as one of the greatest defenses for Marine HQ atop the Red Line, and he makes it known.
During the most recent Egghead Island arc, Akainu almost repeats his brutal attack on Whitebeard blow for blow fighting Bartholomew Kuma. He even manages to take off part of the Buccaneer’s head with his lava-coated fist, dealing massive damage even after Kuma has the Pacifista upgrades. It just shows the incredible power of the Magma-Magma Fruit that he’s able to melt through such a powerful enemy with ease.
The Magma-Magma Fruit is going to show many more powers to come, with possibly an Awakening in store. There are definitely a lot of unexplored powers for such an overpowered Devil Fruit, for sure. Until Akainu gets back into the story some, the Magma-Magma Fruit is going to stay bubbling just under the surface, waiting to erupt.
