There are quite a few Vice Admirals that have made a lasting impression in One Piece.
In the vast One Piece universe, Vice Admirals hold important positions within the World Government’s Marine organization. They serve as the primary military force in the world. Furthermore, these individuals are high-ranking officers who play significant roles in maintaining law and order, ending piracy, and upholding the ideals of their military body. Today, we will be talking about 10 of the more notable Senior Marine Officers.
10. Monkey D. Garp (Semi-Retired)
Monkey D. Garp could be described as a formidable and eccentric warrior. Well known as the “Hero of the Marines,” he fought alongside Gol D. Roger. Also, he happens to be the grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy. Garp’s strength, insane willpower, and general allegiance are generally unmatched. Despite being a Marine, he maintains a complex relationship with his pirate family. Garp often clashes with his grandson Luffy and his ambitions.
9. Smoker
Smoker is best known for his relentless pursuit of pirates, especially Monkey D. Luffy. Also, in the heat of combat, the Vice Admiral wields the Moku Moku no Mi. It grants him the ability to transform into smoke, as well as control it. Smoker upholds his principles of justice but sometimes questions the Marine’s methods, which makes him multidimensional. Uniquely, he recognizes Luffy’s nobility and integrity. Throughout the series, Smoker evolves from an antagonist to an anti-hero with a sense of respect for Luffy. His character adds depth to the complexities of justice and morality in the One Piece world.
8. Tsuru (Retired)
Sometimes overlooked in the overall series, Tsuru is a retired Marine Vice Admiral in One Piece. She is a wise and elegant woman. She also has this eye-catching crane-like hairstyle. With her Woshu Woshu no Mi ability, she can wash away people’s misdeeds. If this wasn’t intimidating enough, she can age people with water manipulation. This elder is highly respected for her skills and leadership, having served the Marine organization for many years.
7. Momonga
Momonga, also known as “The Lion’s Heart,” is a Vice Admiral in the Marine organization within One Piece. With a lion-like appearance and a monocle, Momonga exudes a commanding presence that often intimidates his foes. Momonga played a significant role during the Battle of Marineford, engaging with powerful pirates and admirals alike. Despite his loyalty to the Marines. Much like Smoker and Monkey D. Garp, this Vice admiral occasionally questions the moral implications of the Marine’s actions.
6. Onigumo
Onigumo is a Vice Admiral in the Marine organization in One Piece. His tall and intimidating physique make him a noticeable figure. The Vice Admiral is also known for his spider-like appearance with numerous tattoos on his head and arms. Onigumo is a rather powerful fighter, playing a key role in enforcing justice and confronting formidable foes on behalf of the Marines. Unlike Smoker and others, he’s a bit of a one-dimensional player.
5. Doberman
Doberman is a resolute character by most standards. He commands respect with his no-nonsense demeanor and intense strength. During the Marineford War, he showcased his combat skills when taking on some pretty powerful foes. Despite his tough exterior, Doberman deeply cares for his subordinates and the Marines under his command. There is a very human layer to his persona that many One Piece fans acknowledge. He embodies the steadfast spirit of the Marine organization, willing to confront any threat to maintain peace and uphold the law in the turbulent One Piece universe. When he first entered the Marines, he only had one X-shaped scar. Now, he has four of these scars and a missing eye to boot (when including the manga).
4. Momousagi
Adding another female to the list, Vice Admiral Momousagi, also known as the “Crescent Moon Hunter,” is a well-known Marine officer in One Piece. With an impressive physique, she exudes strength and poise. Like many of the Vice Admirals, Momousagi holds a high sense of responsibility and takes her duty seriously. She participated in the Marineford War, displaying her formidable combat skills in the face of great danger. Beneath her stern exterior, she harbors a compassionate side, holding concern for the well-being of her subordinates. Momousagi’s presence adds dimensional depth to the diverse cast of Marines, portraying a multifaceted character dedicated to maintaining peace and order in the tumultuous world.
3. Bastille
“Shark Cutter” Bastille is a high-ranking Marine Vice Admiral in One Piece, known for his tall, imposing figure and distinct hairstyle. The officer is also well known for his mask, which had to be replaced after Sabo destroyed the first one. In addition to this, the Shark Cutter holds a prestigious position within the organization, often leading missions and supervising more difficult operations. As a testament to his strength, he holds a massive sword. With it, he is capable of dealing devastating blows to enemies. Bastille proved this point in the Summit war. Contrary to his default demeanor, Bastille has a sense of fairness when confronted with questionable commands. It is not clear how much he truly believes in “absolute justice” like the others.
2. Lacroix
Unlike other Vice Admirals, Lacroix is a member of the Giant Squad. The name “Giant Squad” was given to a group of giants in the Marines to protect the execution platform, and there are currently eight that hold the title. Also, his resilience in the face of cannon fire and gunshots has placed him in a rather prestigious position. He also has a different appearance than most of his giant peers, possessing neither a beard nor a malformed face. There is a lot of potential for this Vice Admiral, and it will be fun to see if he plays a bigger role in the One Piece world.
1. John Giant
Like Lacroix, John Giant – if it is not obvious already – is also a giant in One Piece. He is a renowned Marine Vice Admiral in One Piece, noted for his immense size and strength when compared to some of his peers. With his size, John Giant is undoubtedly a symbol of the Marine’s power and authority. His loyalty to justice and the World Government know no bounds. He has seen better days though, as his battle with Whitebeard really put the Vice Admiral in his place.
