It’s really unusual for a game to get DLC after two years of no releases or updates, but One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 is the exception. The game, a One Piece-ified version of the Dynasty Warriors franchise, recently announced a new season pass. Now, that means the game will not get just one, but NINE new DLC characters to join the huge fights. Only one is confirmed so far, with two others heavily hinted at and the others a mystery, so who could they be?
The confirmed character is of course Onigashima Luffy. He comes with a new special skill in Gum-Gum Red Roc, and a new Full-Force Burst of Gear Five. The other two have shadowy outlines which all but confirm as Uta from Film Red and Gold Roger himself. Of course, there are a lot of liberties with move sets on the two characters, but they’re extremely strong. That just leaves six more characters that could make be anyone in One Piece’s history!
First Pack – Onigashima
If there’s anything the One Piece developers like more than pirates, it’s themed DLC packs. Each one so far has a theme whether it be Wano or Supernovas, and this new Pass proves no different. Luffy is the first confirmed for pack one, and with the focus on Onigashima, it looks like this will be an Onigashima-themed pack. So, that opens up a surprising amount of options for the other two new characters.
A lot of fans are clamoring for King or Queen as an addition (mostly King) but those two are doubtful. Instead, it looks like we’ll be getting a father-and-son Zoan-type duo. Yamato is the safest bet, either a Power or Speed type most likely as he switches between transformations. Kaido is the other, although he’s already in the game.
Kaido may not make sense on paper, but he was still a mostly unknown character when the game was well into production. The rumor currently is that Kaido will appear in either a young or half-beast form. The half-beast transformation is the best bet as it has plenty of new moves to show off. Maybe a new stage of the Onigashima Skull Dome is too much to ask though.
Second Pack – Film Red
One Piece’s most recent film just hit streaming services last month. Plus it made plenty of waves since its first release in November. The film was technically Luffy’s first animated Gear Five debut too, but it’s not what we’re here for. No, this is based on the shadow of Uta in the teaser trailer, Film Red’s main focus. Shanks’ daughter makes the most sense as a technique type, utilizing her singing powers to change the world around her.
The second most obvious answer for this pack is a Film Red accurate Shanks. The one already in the game is fun, but he’s nowhere near accurate to the true fighting style or moves of the Red-Hair Pirates Captain. He showcased tons of new moves in the film, so there’s plenty to pull from now.
The third character is likely Koby, as he had a decent amount of screen time in the movie alongside the others. He fits a decent Speed-type character, and will likely make use of his sword and advanced Haki abilities. No doubt he may appear weak at first, but Koby has been growing greatly in the manga recently.
Third Pack – Legends?
This one is more of a guess, as it could be nearly anyone from Roger’s time. The shadow shown in the teaser trailer was a definite match for the Captain Gold Roger, Pirate King. No doubt he’s going to be overpowered as hell, and that leads to the idea this will be a pack based on older characters during his time. That opens up quite a few options, all things considered.
Silvers Rayleigh is one of the most obvious picks. The First Mate of the Roger Pirates is still kicking ass in his old age, so a prime version would be insanely powerful. He fights with a sword, but other than his advanced Haki ability his fighting style is unknown. No doubt he would make a strong Power-type fighter, but a Speed type could work well instead.
The other likelihood is Garp, Luffy’s grandfather. He’s actually a pretty likely pick, as he has a major part in the Egghead Island arc. He’s also a legendary power in the Navy, with insanely powerful attacks. He was playable in previous games, so it’s going to be nice to have him back. Other than Garp the only possibilities would be a young Whitebeard or possibly Sengoku. Those are pretty far-reaching, though.
Very Unlikely DLC Characters
Obviously a story as long and expansive as One Piece is going to have more characters than a game can fit. Fans will always be upset if one character or another isn’t brought in in favor of more popular ones. That said, there are a few that could make it in, but have a very low likelihood.
- Kaku- The poor second in command of Cipher Pol 0 never gets his due. The sword-wielding giraffe man is strong, and has major ass-kicking ability. Unfortunately, he’s constantly gets the shaft in these games.
- Ulti- The queen of Wano’s simp army could work with the same Zoan system X Drake uses. It’s highly unlikely to happen for such a small character though.
- Jewelry Bonney- Would be awesome to have, but unfortunately, she’s only just playing a part in the manga. It’ll be a while for her.
- Ryukujyu- the Navy Vice-Admiral is doubtful, as he still hasn’t shown up in the anime and only briefly in the manga.
- Jack- He’s a NPC enemy in the game, but not playable. It’s doubtful he’ll be used though, as the Beast Pirates Lead Performer is constantly beaten in fights.
That’s all for the predictions we have right now, though! With any luck after the Onigashima Luffy releases there may be some new information with it. Until then, stay tuned to Gamescooper for up-to-date news and reviews about One Piece and everything to go with it!
