The World Nobles represent how wealth sometimes poisons the mind. Let’s figure out why. We have discussed the World Nobles or Celestial Dragons at length in previous segments. However, we painted in broad strokes, describing their powers and special abilities. Now it’s time to take a look at the worst or most evil Celestial dragons to wear the crown… or bubble. For those catching up, there might be SPOILERS ahead. Also, just to clarify, we will not be including Doflamingo. His evil antics occurred mostly after his exile, so it doesn’t make much sense. Starting from the bottom up, here we go.
9. Saint Donquixote Mjosgard
In the beginning, Mjosgard is like many other World nobles; a genocidal maniac with a penchant for unfathomable pleasures. He spends the beginning of his narrative trying to retrieve lost slaves. It should be noted that there is a transformation.
Mjosgard, initially a Celestial Dragon, underwent a significant character transformation after witnessing the discrimination faced by Fish-Men. Mjosgard forged an alliance with Queen Otohime of the Ryugu Kingdom in Fish-Man Island. Eventually becoming a staunch advocate for their endeavors to promote harmony and integration with humans. In stark contrast to the prevailing extreme racism often associated with World Nobles, he actively opposed such prejudices. This would lead to his execution once relations soured with other Celestial Dragons.
8. Saint Camael
Although not much is known about Camael, his tick indicates that he plays a role in refusing to help Donquixote Homing when his family was struggling. Also, he is introduced as a figure who will collect tribute. Camael clearly falls into the category of World Noble favoring opulence over justice. He is also seen as one of the Celestial dragons that wear a bubble to avoid breathing the air of commoners. There is no doubt that he is entitled and sinister.
7. Saint Figarland Garling
There is a bit of discussion surrounding Garling at the moment. Some think he might just be related to Shanks. Garling stands as a towering figure, bearing the marks of wisdom and years gone by. His visage is defined by pronounced wrinkles etched across his countenance and a big nose. He has been known to subscribe to the World Noble mentality that commoners are “subhuman.” It is revealed that he is responsible for ordering the execution of Donquixote Mjosgard for essentially turning into a humanitarian.
6. Saint Pluming
For a figure in One Piece who believes that they are a god, Pluming is the most cowardly deity on the planet. When the revolutionaries come to the World Nobles doorstep, he threatens a slave into being his human shield. Luckily for the slave, this act is stopped before it has the chance to progress. In fact, this is a common practice for him. Pluming is known to discard his slaves like used napkins if they are of no use to him.
5. Saint Jalmack
Jalmack, like Pluming and others, has no issues with using slaves either. He is often being held by a handful of them for transportation and amusement. In keeping with the common traits of a World Noble, Jalmack exhibits a cruel and egocentric demeanor. Usually holding disdain for those of lower social standing. He shows no hesitation in resorting to violence, readily taking aim at anyone who challenges his authority, even if they happen to be as young as Sabo.
Jalmack has used reasoning for his behavior unlike other nobles in his circle. In his opinion, much of his actions are a product of his sense of justice. He behaves a lot like a corrupt Marine, using the banner to justify getting his way at every turn.
4. Saint Rosward
Saint Rosward, a prominent member of the Celestial Dragons residing within the sacred confines of Mary Geoise, holds the distinction of being the father to Shalria and Charlos. Together with his offspring, he emerges as a central adversary during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. His unwavering pride in the Celestial Dragon lineage fuels his disdain for those within his own ranks who may not fully honor their bloodlines, a sentiment directed at figures like Homing and Mjosgard from the Donquixote Family. Although he may outwardly reprimand his children and feign concern, his actions are primarily driven by the need to uphold the facade of their supremacy. In doing so, he exudes an even more pronounced misanthropic and elitist demeanor than his offspring.
One telling instance of his character unfolds at the Human Auctioning House, where he arrives with his family under the guise of mere spectators. However, this façade swiftly unravels when Charlos unexpectedly places a bid on a mermaid.
Rosward’s true nature emerges in its full cruelty and brutality when he takes pleasure in tormenting an enslaved Bartholomew Kuma, relishing in the sadistic act. He cruelly labels Kuma as a top-class slave, emphasizing the latter’s inability to voice pain or distress.
3. Saint Charlos
While Charlos shares the same contempt for commoners as his fellow World Nobles, he distinguishes himself by frequently succumbing to bouts of immaturity and violence. His status as a World Noble has rendered him utterly spoiled and entrenched in arrogance, resulting in his heightened sense of selfishness and irrational behavior. Unlike his family, who already assert their superiority as they pass commoners, Charlos deliberately goes the extra mile to emphasize his dominance.
Charlos doesn’t hesitate to unleash random acts of violence upon unsuspecting citizens. This disturbing tendency was notably demonstrated when he opened fire on Zoro and Luffy when they boldly approached him. The twerp is absolutely unhinged.
2. Saint Shalria
In many ways, Shalria is a sharper Charlos. She wasn’t entirely oblivious to the Straw Hats overarching goal during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. Among her family members, she stood out as the sole individual who went directly for the target of their rescue mission, making a chilling attempt on Camie’s life. Her profound disdain for weakness remains one of her most prominent character traits. Shalria also, shows many examples of racism and abuse towards her slaves, often trying to switch them out if they don’t satisfy her enough. She also accompanies her family to human auctions, exhibiting no remorse.
1. The Five Elders
Collectively, the Five Elders are by far the worst of the bunch. They may not be entitled, but they are responsible for the order that has oppressed most of the known world.
Due to a lack of information, and a deeper dive into a previous segment, it’s best that these guys are lumped together. The World Government, which the Five Elders oversee, perpetuates a system of discrimination and oppression against various races, including Fish-Men, Giants, and Tribal Sects. The Elders not only allow but support these discriminatory practices, showing a disregard for the rights and dignity of those deemed “lesser.”
The Five Elders wield significant influence over organizations like Cipher Pol, which engage in covert, ruthless, and often inhumane operations. They approve missions that involve espionage, assassinations, and even the assassination of innocent civilians, further contributing to their malevolent image. As true tyrants, have sanctioned the censorship of Poneglyphs, ancient stones containing invaluable historical information. This act not only erases history but also hinders the world’s understanding of the Void Century, keeping the masses in the dark about critical events.
